The next White House Canine - Well what will it be?
Many kinds of dogs have resided at The White House. I have read that the Obamas have narrowed it down to 2 breeds, a Portuguese Water Dog & a Labradoodle. The Labradoodle is a crossbred between Poodle & Labrador Retriever & not recognized by the Amer. Kennel Club, but many backyard & puppy mill breeders have been breeding them since the 80s. A relatively unknown breed is the Portuguese Water Dog. Boots, was one who was owned by the 1st kidnapped victim of George Machine Gun Kelly, Howard A. Woolverton & his family of South Bend, Indiana. There were very few in the USA in the 30s & it would be another 30 years until they were reintroduced to the USA. As I recall Boots was a liver color but I could not find any pictures of him with my mom.
What ever breed chosen, I hope breeders will be selective & responsible for breeding in the future and not just breed anything just because it is the new White House canine breed or crossbreed.

(As a pet sitter by profession...I am wondering as there will likely be a surge in popularity in the type of critter the Obamas choose, maybe even cute little soft, sociable pocket pals will again be a chosen companion of one of the little girls ..)
