WEEKLY INFORMAL CHALLENGE 196: "The Animal Kingdom"

Post Fri Jan 10, 2014 3:27 pm

Weekly Challenge: "The Animal Kingdom"

This week we are looking for your photos of animals. The more unusual the photo, the better.

A few simple rules:

1. Themes are posted on Fridays to give you the weekend to come up with a FRESH shot for the challenge to post through Monday.

2. This is about interaction, learning, being challenged and having fun so... HAVE FUN!

3. The themes are specific but interpretations are broad. Stay on theme but PLEASE feel free to think outside the box.

4. Look at others' submissions, comment as moved to do so and offer supportive and constructive feedback. Please don't just post for exposure. Look and at least comment on some.

5. Did we already mention: HAVE FUN!!!

American White Pelican
It is very large and plump, it has an overall length is about 50–70 in (130–180 cm), courtesy of the huge beak which measures 11.3–15.2 in (290–390 mm) in males and 10.3–14.2 in (260–360 mm) in females. It has a wingspan of about 95–120 in (240–300 cm).
The species also has the second largest average wingspan of any North American bird, after the California Condor. Body weight can range between 9.2 and 30 lb (4.2 and 14 kg), although typically these birds average between 11 and 20 lb (5.0 and 9.1 kg).

My little animal kingdom: Maggie the Magpie

This was taken during the Queenie photo shoot. Very slow shutter speed. Queenie was not happy about the camera and kept moving. I figure it's unusual. No zoos here. Not even any wild animals since it's like 10 degrees. I'm going with it. :)

Winter this year is very warm and the blackbirds have not migrated south. Every morning I can hear one of them singing loud behind my window :)
