BACK TO BASICS 16 - MOVING YOUR SHOOTING ANGLE

Post Sat Dec 06, 2014 1:26 am

Back to Basics Informal Meet-up
Repeat after me: “I will not be a lazy photographer.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When You Explore All Angles, Better Pictures Happen
The shooting angle is where you stand to take the photograph. Most of the time, you take a photo standing up, looking face-on to your subject. After all, that's how you saw the scene, and that's how you want to remember the scene.
Photographing your subject from a different angle can have a huge impact on the overall result of an image, making it much more interesting than the standard “head on” approach. Dynamic photographs often begin with your choice of viewpoint.
Zooming or changing your prime lens isn't what this challenge is about. This challenge is above MOVING your shooting angle. Your perspective changes when you move, not when you change focal length or lens.
Moving means that for the most part you'll be photographing without a tripod. A tripod can lock you into one position
Suggestions you can try for this Assignment ~
Try shooting from a low angle can help portray the size of your subject or even exaggerate it.
Try shooting from above can help your subject to appear smaller. or weak or vulnerable.
Try shooting blind. Don’t use your camera’s viewfinder to compose your images all the time. Sometimes “shooting blind” will allow you to get that perfect angle and capture what otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
Your Assignment ~
Take a series of 3 - 5 photographs of the same subject or scene. Before each shutter click, physically move your body to another position. (don’t just zoom your lens) Post the results here.
If you would like to discuss your experience, please do. We can learn from it.
Our goal is to get our best shot through the camera and not the computer, so please limit the amount of processing. For this challenge, you may rotate your image on the computer. If you shoot in raw, of course you may adjust your photos as necessary.
Commenting - lets try to give support to one another and point out what we like about the resulting photo(s).
If you have criticism, keep it constructive and hide the comment.
Deadline to post for this assignment is Saturday, December 20th.
