FUTURE MONTHLY CHALLENGES

Post Sat Aug 29, 2015 1:52 pm

Please post 4 or 5 ideas for future monthly challenges. It doesn't matter if we did it last year. If there was a challenge that was fun... lets do it again.
When making suggestions, please remember that our group represents two hemispheres, opposite seasons, some live in the deep country and don't have access to "street scenes" or people photos. Others live in the deep city without crops and vast landscapes or seascapes.

I would like to get 20 or more ideas so we can create a list to work from. We can vote on which we'll do, but eventually we will do all.

Here are my 5 suggestions:
1. Square Format
2. Haiku Theme/Titles
3. Colors - one week of red, one week of blue, one week of green and one week of the color of your choice. Remaining days are to be as colorful as you can find.
4. Scavenger Hunts - I love them
5. Dutch Angle - I liked that one too

Thank you everyone. I look forward to many more challenges with you.

ALPHABET SOUP A photo to represent every letter of the Alphabet.

30 FACES Human/Animal/Inanimate object such as a Gargoyle...as long as there's a face in there

ACTION Freeze the shot or use an effect as long as there is the feeling of action eg: galloping horse/a runner/a vehicle

MINIMALISM Where less is more

COLOUR WHEEL Your photo is at least 85% of 1 colour chosen from the wheel eg: a green apple on a white background today
a red rose tomorrow.....

These have all been done in the past :)

Laine had suggested this one in an email and a good one to do in September or November since they have 30 days, or we can add two free days and make it 31.

" your world in 30 days "
•Day 1: Anything; whatever you want.
•Day 2: Something that makes you smile.
•Day 3: Something that you collect.
•Day 4: Something that stresses you out.
•Day 5: A cup you drank from today.
•Day 6: Someone who inspires you.
•Day 7: A picture of your phone.
•Day 8: What you had for lunch today.
•Day 9: Shoes.
•Day 10: A bathroom product you use in your hair.
•Day 11: Your pet or someone else’s pet.
•Day 12: A hipshot candid
•Day 13: Nature.
•Day 14: Where you were today
•Day 15: One of the things you own but never use
•Day 16: A movie that made you cry
•Day 17: Something you know you should throw out or give away
•Day 18: Something you’re currently borrowing from someone.
•Day 19: Something you don’t have much of.
•Day 20: A stuffed doll/animal that you own.
•Day 21: Something from your fridge
•Day 22: Something sweet.
•Day 23: A book you’ve been reading.
•Day 24: Something you shouldn’t have bought, but did anyways.
•Day 25: A souvenir from a vacation/holiday
•Day 26: Something that means a lot to you.
•Day 27: Your handwriting.
•Day 28: Something purple.
•Day 29: The road you travel on most often
Day 30 Last Day as it was in the beginning….Anything you want.

Light and shadow play

Portals: Doors, Gates, Windows, Ends of a Tunnel

Home: Something that makes you feel "home" at your house/hometown/place.

Everything gets old - old cars, trucks, buildings, animals, trees, people, hands, clothes, bags etc, etc.

Occupations and professions people do

Geometry that we can see/find around - Horizontal and vertical lines, triangles, squares, rectangles, circles, ovals etc.

Can I suggest we add, say five, alternatives to Laine's list as I know for certain I don't have a stuffed toy or animal and may be struggling with a couple of others.

a) your local convenience store, inside or out.

b) your hand or part of your hand

c) a button, stud, hook or tag of an item of your clothing

d) an interior shot of today's mode of travel

e) your eye

Sure Ray, we can add them and have 35 or 36 choices. Sounds like a good idea.
Do you have some ideas to add to our list for future challenges?

I'm adding another subject. This was a challenge that I wanted to do, but couldn't participate that month.
ABSTRACT PHOTOS or NATURES ABSTRACTS.

Make it simple , make it easy!

1. Simplicity- Point and shoot simple things in our everyday life
2. Seasons- everybody has his season
3. Food- that is easy!
4. Old stuff- antiques, cars etc.
5- Candids - that´s easy too!

I like the idea of the haiku theme, or poetry in general, but I also really like scavenger hunts. I haven't had time to take part recently, but I certainly intend to get back into the monthly challenges. ALL the suggestions I have seen so far sound excellent to me. I don't really have any additional ideas!

All sound fun and some demanding. I, too, love the Scavenger Hunts.
We are hopefully in the process of moving, ie selling and buying houses at the moment but I have every intention of getting back to Pbase as soon as time allows.
Thanks to Lynn and to those who have suggested Challenge ideas, it is always interesting to see the different takes on the same subject.
Chris :)

Stephanie has sent some ideas via email - here are her suggestions and I have added them (via edit) to our LIST above.

"Hi Lynn!

Gosh, monthly theme ideas.... I always love scavenger hunts, music &/or musician months (how about music of the 50's?), as well as monochrome.

It's always fun to do a challenge showing the area where we live (maybe we could add a new twist to that ~ such as flora & fauna of our hometowns OR water of our hometowns ~ rain, lakes, rivers, puddles, ponds, oceans, etc.)

Other ideas (my camera club's monthly competition themes) ~ Motion Blur, Abstract Beauty & Art, Trio (anything with 3), Shadows, Street Scenes (which I find very difficult to shoot....).

Never have been a fan of book or author challenges. "
