Thanks to those who turned out and participated. It was a somewhat challenging topic....

Honorable mentions:








3rd place:


No quite as symbolic as some others, but a beautiful composition, impeccable technique and excellent lighting.


2nd place:



Nice find. Its from a scanned negative, so I gave it a slight technology bonus.

The winner is:

All 3 entries showed the same little shoot of life emerging from a severed branch. I chose this one because its sharp throughout and has a nice bokeh...

Thank you very much for the first place award and congratulations to other competitors.

All three submitted pictures show a lily pilly tree; we had 6 of them along our back fence. They had been badly damaged by termites and were removed about 2 years ago, so the photos is what's left of them. Now we have young ornamental pears in their place:

Better the termites make a meal on the lily tree and not hopefully your house!

The house did not go without any damage, floors had to be replaced in two rooms over so many years, but since we have the property inspected for termite's activity every year, things are under control... "touch wood" :?
