ISO Exif info

Post Sun Dec 03, 2006 5:28 pm

How do i get the ISO exif info to show up on pbase or in general. It appears that my MAC and Pbase cannot pull that information from the Camera when downloading or uploading. ??

Canon SD900 Camera ??

A quick click through your galleries and all the pictures seem to have a EXIF attached.

If you recently started using another editing program make sure to NOT use the "save for web" option. This will strip the EXIF info off.

Maybe you could describe your flow...
How you get the pictures to your computer (and in what format)
What program you use to edit.
What (if any) post processing you do.
etc.

FYI This picture http://www.pbase.com/healthiest/image/68799951
shows this EXIF info (under PBASE)...

Healthiest is actually looking for the ISO part of the EXIF for the SD900 (not just the EXIF). Its possible that the ISO details are not making it to your PC. I would bring an image into any software editing program and check the Information to see if EXIF is being captured in the first place.

Cheers

Actually, it's been mentioned a few times several exif-readers
have a hard time reading some Canon camera ISOs. Irfanview has
no prob though nor do a couple of exif readers I've found.

I've also found that **Adobe CS's SaveAs wipes out**, in certain
of Canon Cameras (my s410 Elph is one) the ISO info that
WAS there in the original. As you can seen in the part you quoted,
the ISO info is gone.

Additionally, pBase's parsing of Canon flash-use is showing "No" still for
pictures in which flash was definitely used.

New info, and a couple of us have tested it, and it works well.

Apparently Canon puts the ISO speed rating in a non-standard field for
its Powershots and Elph models, and Photoshop doesn't see it (nor wants
to) and so a Photoshop-modified file will lose that info. PBase will have
noISO rating to work with.

DPreview forums had a couple of solutions. First, below, is the simplest
one. Both solutions are based on Phil Harvey's ExifTools, which even
computes the actual ISO value when using Canon's AutoIso feature
(based on AutoISO x BaseISO). Harvey's utility which provides all the exif
data not normally seen (such as what jpg SaveAs quality value was used
when resizing etc), is available in both Windows and Mac format.

Two members of DPreview forum have provided interfaces to Harvey's
exif-info file and they put that non-standard ISO field info or the
computed ISO value into the standard field, patching the original jpg file
or a copy of it.

It's done by moving even an entire folder/directory over the icon for
Exiftool.

However, these two utilities that do this patching are available
only in Windows format.

1. Here is the easiest one, now updatable (free) from a web page instead
of only at the Canon forum:

2. Here is another one that offers patching of other field info
