PBase Magazine launched - post problems here

Post Mon Apr 11, 2005 1:42 pm

Folks,
We have just launched the PBase Magazine
http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=10895 for more details

If you are facing decode problems, please try and upgrade to the latest acrobat reader (version 7) from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

while we figure out what is the issue.

Folks,

a) I have removed the PDF link - only provided the ZIP link. Since the PDF was greater than 2Meg, I was told browser plugins could hang

b) If you are still facing 'decode' problems, please see if upgrading to acrobat reader 7.0 helps (link in post above)

c) If you downloaded the magazine, and its working perfectly for you, would appreciate you sending me a mail (see my profile) mentioning so and also letting me know what OS and what acrobat reader version you are using.

1) did you download the ZIP file ?
2) Can you please try and upgrade your acrobat reader to version 7 (see http://www.pbase.com/magazine for a link) and report back ?

It may be a versioning issue.

Worked for me, but I had to download AAR 7. It's well worth it, though, as it's a very impressive first issue.

I've tried to view the pdf, then I tried the zip version still no go. I updated my AR5.0 with the lastest updates for that version still no go. Went to get AR 7.0 that doesn't seem available for win98se but I tried the 6.01 version and that worked. So I finally got to see it but it would be nice if you posted it as an earlier version so more people could just open the file. It didn't seem to contain any features that were beyond the capacity of version 5.0.
I was reluctant to upgrade as I had the full pay pro-reader/writer version of 5.0 and didn't want to upgrade to a later non-pro later version, or buy the lastest pro- version.

Hi,
sorry about that. We were unaware that new versions of adobe broke older ones. I am trying to get a fix - in the meantime, I have posted the version requirements.

Hi not sure what you mean by trial. It is free (just download the reader) http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
After downloading, make sure you are using the correct reader version (do a help->about)

Also, please make sure you downloaded the ZIP file and not the PDF which was posted earlier. If it still does not work, please let us know what error you got.

Adobe Reader 5.0 will complain of some decoder issues. However I have been able to use Reader 6.0 to open the file successfully.

Great work Arjun and others...

Any chance of it working with version 5? It's still what most folk are using - is there anything in the mag that requires version 6 or 7?

Yup - sorry, I didn't realise there were people who are stuck with versions prior to 6. I've managed to back save it to be compatible with 5 & above & have passed it on to be published. With everyone in different time zones, I'm not sure when that will be, but you can rest assured that it's on it's way.

Kind of - the formatting's pretty tricky for Acrobat Writer to handle so there were quite a lot of manual touch-ups to get it looking right. I wouldn't like to try creating it with a version before v6. However, once the file is created it can be back-saved.

Update: I've just downloaded & installed V5.1 (the one Adobe give Win 98 users) and everything looks right.

...except for my PC, which hates me for installing multiple versions of Acrobat & has decided I now don't have any installed, but that was to be expected. :?
