Combine Z

Post Mon Mar 13, 2006 3:31 am

I ran across this program that looks helpful to everyone who enjoys doing macro work, and thought I'd pass it on. It's used to increase the depth of field by combining several shots of the same object together that were taken at different focus points. There's a couple of example shots on the site. I'd seem something similar before, but it was Very expensive and this is a freebie. Has anyone tried it, and if so could you share your experience?
Thanks

This macro was made with a reversed 50mm and my G5:

I think it was made up of 8-10 shots at different focus distances and combined with CombineZ. Note there is a misfocused band in the image. A reverse 50mm has an extremely narrow DOF as shown in this image: http://www.pbase.com/atucker/image/48639579 . For this reason I used CombineZ

Considering looking at this thread which discusses CombineZ and Helicon Focus in a bit more depth: http://www.tawbaware.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=2073

I've read a several articles about it, and thought for a free program it looks great. Most misalignment problems can be corrected with a bit of photoshop work. But you're the first person I've seen using these programs, I appreciate your reply and I'll look thru' more of your work.
Thanks!
