Pbase search engine

Post Thu May 24, 2007 9:10 am

First of all, it works. It takes multiple words and it is very useful. Thank you. But I found that engine doesn't like keywords with underscore symbols. For example, it doesn't find my keyword 'i_navi'. It looks like a bug.

Thank you in advance,
David

I'd think it would be best to leave out the underscore and just use a space. Also, between keywords use a comma.

the _ gets removed, same happens to german characters like ä ö ü Ä Ö Ü

Really? I can't depend on the pbase search for anything. Try typing in "San Diego Zoo." Nothin. But when I just type in "Zoo" then the floodgates are unleashed!

I have tried several two word searches and no luck. One word works, more than one doesn't. I tried Sydney Australia and got zero. The PBase search engine is up to its usual inconsistent standard :D

Google works on multiple words on the individual pages including comments, but not the keywords unfortunately.

As an example, go to Google and enter this string in the search box:

sydney australia site:www.pbase.com This returns some 3K pages.

Narrowed down to Sheila’s galleries:
sydney australia sheila site:www.pbase.com This returns 166 pages.

The San Diego Zoo:
san diego zoo site:www.pbase.com This returns some 5,400 pages. Additional words can be added to the Google search phrase if one wants to narrow it down to monkeys, etc.

Rdavid’s ‘i_naviâ€

I have always thought that one should use Google rather than PBase search engine in any event.

No it does not! But many others have mentioned this as well. Try "Bora Bora" my favorite. Nothing? No worry, try "Bora" and so you are in at the fabled Bora Bora after all.

Also, sub-words or part words are not being searched. Hawai delivers a different search to Hawaii, I am sure others have similar observations.
