Mamiya 645 1000s or 645e

Post Tue Nov 30, 2004 8:01 am

I want to venture into the medium format arena. Looking at either the 645E or 645 1000s cameras. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Don't know much about the Mamiya or any medium format SLR for that matter, as I'm a dedicated Rolleiflex TLR man myself.
Have a search on Google, there is plenty of info. there. The prices seem a little high for the 645 pro series, especially when you compare them with a good S/H Hassi.
But give me a good Rollei TLR with a Zeiss 2.8 planar lens any day, they don't come much better than that. :D

I recently purchased the Mamiya 645E new from B&H. I was tempted to buy used on EBay but I have been burned before buying used cameras.

I think that this is a fantastic medium format camera for the price. The lens is very sharp, the meter is extremly accurate, you get mirror lockup and double exposure controls. Mamiya lenses have DOF preview. There is a good selection of quality MF lenses from Mamiya. Some are very expensive.

I have a few photos posted. Just view photos by camera type. My photos may take a few days to show up because I just signed up yesterday. Of course you cannot demonstrate the advantage of MF with a scaled down JPG.

You should love it. I bought a used 645 1000s years ago in Arizona. It came with a 80mm f/2.8 and a pds metering viewfinder. The meter does well in most situations but I usually bracket my shots. Using it vs my Minolta 35mm really makes me slow down and think through my work. Enjoy yourself!
