Nikon Coolscan V Question

Post Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:47 pm

I just bought and installed the Coolscan V and am expierencing an unusual problem. I'm using the scanner in the stand alone mode. After I scan my image Nikon's software displays the image which looks just great. I'm saving the file's in TIFF format and then open them in Photoshop CS2. When Photoshop opens the image I'm getting a significant color shift. I'm not applying any tools, just a straight out crop and scan. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rick

Hi Rick,

have you configured the colourmanagement settings in Photoshop? You have to make sure that PS applies CM. Go to Edit -> Colour settings and configure the way PS handles different colour profiles.

You can also find a lot of information about the Nikon CoolScan V here:

Kind regards,

I agree with Klausson, also different film/tranny makes work differently.
You will have to set up the colourmanagement for each type of media,
You can do this with the tools in that scanner.
When satisfied save the profile in the scannerand give it a name,
I know it's a bit long winded,
but you will finish up with profiles to use for ever, bearing in mind all emulsions for the same film may have a slight colour shift.
This is easily corrected though.
Most of my earley work with flora was scanned with this scanner.
