I need HELP scanning some really old B&W's

Post Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:37 am

Please see picture below for this. I have a few old black and whites (this one is hand painted) that look good to the naked eye, with the black areas looking vey dull (no sheen or reflection). Yet when I try to scan them, the black area gets a reflection that shows up white in the scan. See all the white specks. Any suggestion?

Many scanners and scan programs have settings to adjust shadows and highlights. What you're seeing is the scanner attempting to do this with your images - lightening what it perceives as shadow areas. Try to find that setting and disable it.
