Canon CanoScan 9900F

Post Wed Jul 28, 2004 4:03 pm

I just bought this scanner to replace an HP scanner that just decided to stop working one day for no reason whatsoever.

I cannot praise this scanner highly enough. Set up was simple and the TWAIN software is head and shoulders above HP's so called "PrecisionScan Pro". It produces much better scans than the HP and the nifty slide and negative scanning features are a huge bonus.

Downside: it is not the cheapest scanner out there, but if any of the cheaper Canon scanners are half as good as the 9900F, they are worth it. I am now a happy camper after several frustrating weeks with the HP and will be scanning a bunch of old pics, slides and negatives over the next few months.

Is your new scanner one of those that use a CCD sensor like a digital camera and it essentially produces a scan by stitching together a bunch of photos rather than just point sampling with a sensor like the older scanners??

Hey! expat.

If you get any problems with it, give me a bell. I'm the expert. Image

I have the canon 3200f, and use it occassionally to scan negs and slides, I am a little dissappointed with the results of those scans. The print scanning is very good though. When I purchased it I was considering going the next step up and getting the better technology but didn't and I do regret it. It is wise to spend the extra if you want to scan negs and slides.
