Circular Polarizer Filter

Post Mon May 15, 2006 7:00 pm

Hello,
I use a circular polarized filter directly connected to the lens
(a zoom Nikkor 28-85mm with a 62mm diameter).
It works fine, except when i use the 28mm.
The pictures have all 4 corners black, following a circle.

Can anyone help me to understand it ?

Or should i use an adapter with a wider diameter filter ?

Thanks in advance,
Jean

Hi Jean
What is happening is called vinetting..I think I spelled it right...
The angle is too wide for the filter you are using. Nikon does make a thin filter for wide angles, or use, say a 67mm filter with a step down ring..see if that works for you....Hope that helps.

Thanks Roger,
It's what I expected !
How stupid from Nikon, I lost lots of my favorid pictures.

I can always reduce the pictures with Photoshop, but it's a shame.

I was scanning for a converter (adapter) with 62mm to (?) for à new greater diameter filter, but I don't find some.

Thanks anyway for your rsponse.

Jean

It is not uncommon for wide angle lenses to require “slimâ€

Search for "step up ring" or "step down Ring".
