Which Camera ?? Canon or Nikon ??

Post Fri Jan 05, 2007 3:47 am

Hey, I'm going to buy a new 35mm SLR and was wondering what your opinion was on the cameras I am thinking of.

The cameras I am looking at are:

-Nikon N75

- Canon Rebel 2000

Which camera is a better buy?

Thanks,

SE7

I use the Nikon N75. You can get a camera kit from places like amazon which have good deals going on with the camera. I got a couple of Sigma lenses to go with it. They work fine and I have been happy with the output of the camera.

Hi. Are you really considering a new one?

I have a used Nikon F-801s. It is a very nice 35mm camera and it takes great pictures. It includes the following:

Nikon Speedlight SB-22 flash
28-70mm AF Nikkor (w/ 52-mm 1A Izumar filter)
75-300mm AF Nikkor (w/ 62-mm L1Bc Nikon filter)
Hard Aluminum Camera Case

You can get all from me for only $250!

Please e-mail me if you are interested.

Thanks.

If you can swing an F100 do so it's an awsome Film Camera.

Cheers

I picked up a used Nikon N80 on ebay for around $100 and it's great. I'm assuming you don't already have lenses? If you do, just go with what you have, if not, I'd head to a store that sells used gear and try them out to decide which one you like best.
Nikon D300, D200
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D, 55mm f/1.4 micro, 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G DX, 80-200 f/2.8D
Apple PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro
Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop CS3

Perhaps the more important question is "Which Glass"?

The bodies are both great.

Recently, I bought a slightly used Canon Rebel T2 on eBay and it is on the way now. Actually, my first choice was Nikon N80 but when I saw T2 on the listings, it changed my mind. I was torn between the two. What prompted me to select Rebel T2 over Nikon N80 was because it was released only recently, 2004, compared to N80 which was released around 1990-1991. Another thing that swayed Rebel T2 to my favor was I thought it captures crisp clear images than N80.

sharpness has absolutely nothing to do with body, especially with film. lens matters, to an extent film does do, but it's mostly lens.

Canon 2000

:D I have a Canon 2000 and fine it awesome. I had a brand new new Digital Rebel in 2004 and soon bought a nice 17mm-40mm F4 " L " lens to replace the Kit lamo 18mm-55mm plastic " Mattel" looking lens that came on that camera( still still love that camera). I soon , new I wanted to take some full frame 17mm shots that were not cropped up to 27mm and the Canon 2000 was a cheap answer. It is so light, and focus fast. Can't go wrong. I now have a full frame 5D , but still love shooting that 2000 with b/w film and a red filter. Nikon " Use" to be king it the days of film, but now are second fiddle with the digital age . Nothing against Nikon as their old F2,3's 4's were classics, but Canon " L " glass is at least on parr with Nikon these days and their Digital Camera bodies are still lagging behind a bit. My take??? Go the Canon 2000

Nobody is king, Canon have the low noise sensors, Nikon have better optics and ergonomics. It's really subjective when you get right down to it.

Well, the package containing the camera arrived yesterday after a rather long wait because of the Holy Week break. I began playing with it a little bit and it gives me so much joy. This is the first time I got hold of a camera of this kind.

Well I would say Canon Optics are as good as Nikon these days , at least their " L " glass stuff. I will say Canon is kicking Nikon's " Behind" lately as far as digital goes. I see many Canon white lens these days at sporting events compared to Nikon and know several friends who " Jumped Ship" from nikon to canon. That being said though , I did purchase a mint shape Nikon F3 film camera with a few lens for 225.00 at a pawn shop and think it is onbe of the best " Manual Film Cameras" ever built. I love b/w film with a red filter and this F3 is a tank and will never be sold. I would say " for the record" Nikon produced the best cameras in the 80's and this is a camera I have wanted forever. I use to shoot with Ricoh in the 70's with 64 asa slide film. At the time , I wished I had a Nikon. Today , with digital, I am very pleased to be a team Canon guy .. My Canon 2000 rebel takes great photos with it's plastic ' Mattel " body and I will be hard pressed to beat it with my F3 , but my F3 will outlive me and is a pure joy to wind the film yourself and focus on your own...
