Samsung S-1050 Digital Camera eats batteries?

Does anyone have any experience with the Samsung S1050 digital camera? I bought one and in the process of learning its functions, it ate four sets of brand new batteries in one hour. The last set lasted no more than 5 minutes as it died right after I took five pictures around my den. I've heard that digital cameras are hard on batteries, but this is impossible? Is there a solution other than sending it back as defective camera?

My Canon point and shoot will take 500+ pictures using the screen to compose the shot and review all the pictures, and all on a set of 4 AAs.
