Pentax ME SLR camera lens

Post Wed Aug 29, 2007 2:04 pm

I was given a Pentax ME slr camera that has an additional lens.

The lens that came with the camera is.....SMC Pentax-M 1: 1.7 50 mm
4548961 Asahi Opt. Co., Japan

This lens takes great pics.

The other lens in the camera bag is ....No. 932197 52 mm Albinar ADG coated optics 1:2.8 F= 28 mm

What I would like to know is something about this second lens as compared to the original lens. This lens fits perfectly on the camera but I have not taken any pics with it yet.

Thank you for any information on this.

They're two different focal lengths, the first (50mm) is considered a 'normal' length and is very close to the way you naturally see things. The second (28mm) is a wide angle lens, which allows you to get more things in the frame. They also have different maximum apertures, f/1.7 is wider (thus brighter) than f/2.8, wider aperture also yields a smaller depth of field (amount of stuff in focus). The 52mm in the second one refers to the diameter of the lens, which is important when selecting a filter.

Thank you for the info. So I have a wide-angle lens as an extra.

Question....What are some situations where I would use this lens? I take a lot of scenery around lakes and parks....trees and nature stuff. Would I be better to leave the regular lens on the camera and just forget about the other one? or is there some real applications for this lens?

Thanks, Chuckwagon

Wide angles are great for landscapes. I'd say experiment with both and figure out what style suits you best. Sometimes using a wide angle lens close up can get interesting results.
