Photo films and airport security scanners

Post Sat Mar 20, 2010 1:40 am

Hi! I have plans on travel to the Netherlands this Easter, and I want to take my Nikon FM2n and some films. My question is: Is it safe to run my films thru the airport security scanner? Do anyone have excperience with this? Positive or negative? The films in question are: Kodak Portra 400vc, Kodak Ultramax 400 and Kodak Ektar 100. The airports I will travel too/from Rygge outside Oslo, Norway and Düsseldorf (Weese). I travel to Düsseldorf (Weese) because it's alot closer to were my friends in the Netherlands live, then Amsterdam Schipol :)

"They say" that up to ISO 400 your film is safe from the scanners. I might allow it to run through unexposed, but I would post the exposed film back to my home instead of risking a second trip through the scanners. The other option of course s to just buy your film at your destination and post it home after you're done. My experience is that I ran some Ilford Delta 400 (B&W stock) twice and it may have been affected.
