I can get a Canon EOS-1 (with Canon EF 50 mm lens) for $225. It is in good shape and everything seems to work well (motor drive, etc.). It originally belonged to one of the staff photographers at the newspaper I work at and he is one of the few photographers there who actually takes good care of the equipment. The paper is selling off all its film equipment, which hasn't been used for several years, to employees for whatever the equipment was appraised at a year ago by a local camera shop (the price the shop would pay for it). I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel, so all my lenses, except for the kit lens, should work with it.
I would buy it if I were you, it's a great camera. I have the EOS 1N myself (also bought it used) and love it. Beware, though, that your Digital Rebel will feel like a toy in comparison and you won't enjoy the viewfinder of the digital anymore once you have looked through the EOS 1...
Besides, the 50mm is a great lens also for the digital body.
