Can you give an example of their shipping charge vs. say B&H?

Since I have only delt with them through ebay they list the shipping as being $18 for the D50 kit.

B&H shows it as $12 for the shipping (higher for faster shipping). The Kit price is actually lower than shows on the front page once added to the cart it is $619 within a few pennies of the 17th street price.

Good luck.

Ritzcamera (so-so prices but the free shipping/no taxes makes up for a lot)
Abe's of Maine (But a warning that some of his stuff is grey)

Adorama has provided me good service. But I have seen others report problems.

I am a big believer in http://www.resellerratings.com also.

I agree with Castledude on resellerratings. Always check them out before making a final decision. Get all your ducks in a row ( when I say that I mean look @ people's opinions of the stores first ).

I love B&H photo-video. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/
Adorama's ratings aren't has high. http://www.adorama.com/
I just bought something from Canoga Camera. Great store in CA. http://www.canogacamera.com/
When looking on ebay checkout Cameta Camera. They are amazing! http://www.cameta.com/

Froogle.com is great for price checking. http://froogle.google.com/

I only bought one thing from http://www.cameta.com/ and I would agree that my single experience was extremely good.

Anybody know if this place is any good, they seem to have really good prices: http://www.expresscameras.com/welcome.asp

I have been doing all of my online stuff with B&H, no problems so far!

Try a Google search on expresscameras, there are a lot of complaints. This one looks like it should be avoided.

I usually buy things from B&H. They are fast.

However, I ordered my first DSLR- Pentax DL- from http://www.willoughbys.com. This is my first order with them (recommended from many folks on dpreview.) Their camera price included free ground shipping. For this item, it is 20% less than B&H

They shipped promptly. I'll let you know when my camera arrive.

revised list of retailers:

B&H
Adorama
Cameta

and I would also add buydig, especially for the price of cameras and prompt service - not many cheaper, and legitimate.

Be sure to post your experience with them after you receive your camera. I saw a review on http://www.resellerratings.com/ that insinuated false advertising. There was something about “oversellingâ€

Fixx,

I got the DL yesterday (I opted for 2nd day air for $26.) It is brand new as advertised. The packing is welldone.

What I noticed is that accessories price is more expensive than most store. Pentax's lens are also a bit more than B&H. I'm not sure why the DL is cheaper.

If they have a good deal, I'll definitely buy from them again.

I happen to be an Adorama guy..... (by that I mean the place where I shop the most)

I've shopped with

BH (good prices, careful on the used equipment -- call before buying and ask 1000 questions, I got burned 2 times, luckily they are really great on customer service)

Cameta (great deals but their factory demo = refurbished product)

Harmony Computers (good prices, good service)

Eastcoastphoto.com (ok on ordering but great customer service)

DigitalFotoClub.com (good prices and good service)

Ritz (terrible prices but great service)

CameraFilters.com (great for filters and adapters -- good prices, great service)

FocusCamera.com (good prices and good service)

I am sure there is more that I encountered in my ordering history, but this is the batch worth mentioning.

USED

Post Tue May 16, 2006 4:17 pm

To add to this, first of all, I was pleased with the service I received from Cameta cameras.

I am looking into a USED DSLR - which of the places discussed would be best for used qpt?

Anyone do a "try before you buy?" I am trying a Canon 20D right now that someone wants to sell me. I am NOT happy with it - cannot get decent focus or correct color. Even if I could, I'd be leery about buying with NO warranty.

Have bought a number of items on the web, and this site http://www.ripoffreport.com was very useful to check others past experiences.
If you use Froogle to get prices, try checking the lowest price companies
with it.
