i just added Tibet as a country to htttp://www.pbase.com/world/tibet

officially it's part of China, and not recognized as its own country, but it seems like a distinct country to me, and to Tibetans according to http:/www.tibet.com

strange.

As you've mentioned, officially, Tibet is NOT a country. But I think it is a good idea to list Tibet as a region and put the pictures related in it, because it is really a charming and beautiful place. In China, it's a beautiful dream of lots of people to travel to Tibet.

But I don't think it is proper to list Tibet here as a 'country' and put its flag there. As a Chinese, I understand that you just want people can find Tibet pictures easier, but this may hurt the feeling of lots of other Chinese people.

And I suggest that you may put 'Select a country or a region' in the list box of 'Your Country', cuz Hong Kong is also a region of China officially nowadays.

I don't intend to discuss any political issues here, just a kindly remind, you know, I like PBASE very much and I just want it to be better :) Thanks.

Well, it was and still would be if the frickin' Chinese would get the heck out of it. Fat chance! A very sad takeover and occupation.

The Chinese destroyed 6,000 temples and monasteries, killed over a million people, including monks & nuns and don't even allow the native Tibetans to speak their own language in school and business. They've also forcefully reloacted more than a million Chinese into Tibet to help assure that the Tibetans will be subserviant to Chinese culture in the future.

It is the holocaust of our time and neither the US or UN has ever lifted a finger to help them.

I have some images from Tibet in my new portfolio for anyone who might be interested.

I do not want to argue here with you about this political issue. i just want to state a similar fact: Do you think Quebec is a COUNTRY instead of a region? I do not think you get many "facts" of Tibet. Maybe you have been to Tibet, seen something. Yet, before you came, you have some stereotyped idea innoculated by your country, your media.
Where did you get the information Tibetans have no right to use their own language? It is the first time I heard about this. I travelled there. I also saw things. Seeing is believing.

I hate the way United States trouble with other countries' issues. Who do you think Americans are? Savior of the world?

Visit this site on the Campaign to Save Tibet.

I assure you I did not make these things up. I have been there and I have also been in touch with a local branch of Friends of Tibet and donated an image to a fundraiser for the cause of Tibetan awareness and freedom.

They are forced to speak Chinese in school and to do any business. It's just another way of erasing any reamins of the Tibetan culture in favor of Chinese cultural and economic dominance.

USA the savoir of the world? Hardly. We can't even get our government's head outof it's own ass. But I'm sure any effort we make to help another country will always be misconstrued as imperiallsitic manuevering.

You are allowed to believe whatever you like. Or are you? Where do you live?

PS Just as I suspected...'purplerain' is Chinese. Fidning out the truth about your own government can be rough. We all have to face some ugly things now and then.

No.

Tibet is not a country, it is one part of China.
Many beautiful places in China, but no matter how beautiful and special they are, they are still parts of China, and the people who lives there are Chinese....

I am Chinese, I would not deny this.

But one thing I shall make clear is that I never believe that our government is something so good that I will believe everything they say in media. Any intelligent person would not do that. I know the history of Tibet. Of course, there are problems in Tibet (what other regions or countries would claim that they have no problems in their area?). But does that mean that Tibet should be out of People's Republic of China?
It is part of China, a special district of China, like Hong Kong.

As you mentioned Dali Lama, if you have interest, you may have a look at the interview Dali Lama had with the VOA this year.

Best regards,

purplerain

P.S: As to me, I never think FREEDOM is possible in any country. You may claim that you are FREE in your country. Yet being in this world, nothing, nobody is free. Definitely, every country has limitations and controls over their people, but degrees might differ. China, of course, has a long way to go. But I never lose faith in our country. And differences in our thinking are, I must add, to some degree, due to the cultural differences we have.

Americans, as to me, are sometimes so eager and enthusiastic to help others. But do you think what you do is really what others want? You may help one person on the street who you think needs help. How do you know what he thinks about this? Will he oblige your "help" so much if that person thinks your help is not necessary and intrudes his privacy?

If you're going to list Tibet as a separate country would you please do the same for Humboldt County?

We're damn tired of being part of the US and now with ARnold coming to the throne we'd like to withdraw from California.

About Tibet

Do you know Tibet's history, opus1? Do you know how many poor people are killed or hurted by the rich people before 1949? They were still in the slave society that time. Some slaves are killed by their owners, some slaves lost their arms, legs,...!

Currently there are some bad guys who fight for Tibet's independent. They just do it for themselves! Part of them are trying to use this way to anti-CCP. Some of them want their powers, want to control Tibet's people just like 50 years before! Do you ever see any real Tibet's people(who lives in Tibet now) say anything like that? If all the Tibet's people want to be independent, no one can control them!

I bielieve now Tibet's people have much better life and much better human rights than 50 years before! Sure, they may be still poor, but they won't have any life threaten now!!! And most part of China are not so rich, we Chinese people can definitely unite together can make our country more powerful, make our people more rich! We won't alow any bad people hurt our people, or divide our home-country into several parts!

This is the picture shows that most of the Tibet poor people are very happy when they were liberated!

I think to paste the Tibelt/Taiwan/Moncu as a seperate country out of China is to hurt all the Chinese's feeling. And as the world knows, Hongkong is a special region of China.
I think the paster should obey the rule of respecting the territory integrity ofa sovereignty.

Slug, you have the right to list them as countries in your own website, but we chinese people also have the rights to bielieve and follow our government and anti those people who want seperate our home-country. I love Tibet cause it's a beautiful part of China, and I wish ALL the Tibetans can earn good life, not only those Tibet Nobles like Dalai Lama.

I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings, but you really need to hear the truth.

One day the people of Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Tibetans may help you gain your freedom if they are allowed keep their's. Which of course is why your government wants them squashed. Although in the case of HK and Taiwan, it has more to do with embarassment over how well they've done economically out from under communist domination.

Communism is dead; fight for a free press and get over it. In the meantime, don't expect the rest of us to feel bad when you find out the truth about your government's policies. It happens to all of us to some degree.

Also as a matter of fact, yes, I have heard a Tibetan say he wished the Chinese would leave his country. In fact I 've heard many.

I heard it first from a monk in a dark temple inside Tibet when our Chinese tour guide left us alone for a minute and he who begged us to go home and help fight for his country. And I have heard it from Tibetan refugees both at private parties and at 'Save Tibet' meetings here in southern California.

Until you have a free press, you won't hear this in your news media; nor will you have any more true freedom than the Tibetans!
