Question: What file format do you shoot most?

Post Thu Dec 27, 2007 6:24 pm

For all you guys who shoot a PAD pretty religiously, I am curious what format you use most. Do you shoot everything your camera's RAW format? Do you shoot all JPG and process from there? Some mix?

So what format do you shoot and why?

RAW is my default for everything. It gives you a lot more control with the result.
Check out Adobe Camera Raw version 4.3 which offers so much more than the previous version. Bear in mind I'm only using Elements

Cellphone cameras don't shoot in RAW.

Low low tech is where it's at!

I always use Raw and Jpg, it is nice to have a 'digital negative' in store.
Aslo I feel I can correct whitebalance and exposure better from the raw..

RAW and process to 16bit to edit; otherwise I do 35mm and MF (which I also scan as 16bit TIFF)

Just RAW. Never JPEG.

35 mm was a great answer though. I'd say 35mm cropped :-)

I shoot raw, because it is so versatile. I convert to 16 bit TIFF for printing and convert to jpeg for web-related purposes.

I guess I should have mentioned that all I shoot now is RAW as well.

I always shoot RAW but do begrudge the time and disk space wasted for the vast majorityof shots where I could just have easily used JPEG!
