I have told no one about this and just put these pictures up today. Is there a market for pictures of people you don't know?

bored tonight.

I'm like Jude .. I do this every day for a newspaper and pretty much everyone around here knows who I am and where I work. After seven years worth of photos in a small town, I tend to get people I don't know yelling at me "HEY! Take MY picture! Can I be in the PAPER?!?!" I lost the feeling of weirdness at taking photos of strangers a long time ago. Shoot first, ask questions later. I obviously have no problem taking voyeur shots of people ... but asking ... the "Hi, mind if I take a photo of you" will be an interesting exercise.
So I've got a week ahead of me of heading away from my "territory" to find people I don't know. I have found that a lot of people do respond to simply being told "You've got an interesting face"

Well Dan, much as I would like to enter your challenge I'm also disqualified because I take pictures of strangers all the time. The challenge for me is to pluck up the courage to ask them to sign that paper.

Because most people won't mind you taking their picture, but some will object to having their picture published on some web site. So I go through the whole paragraph very carefully, explaining what can and what can't be done to their portrait. Tiresome. But that's why it's a challenge. For me. Slowly building up a collection

What other photographers think of releases is of no concern to me.

I guess I have nothing to say then..

So without offering this to Anna, I won't be asking them to sign releases. I'm pretty sure unless you're selling it's no big deal. And I have in the past told people when they ask, about the site and given them the link. Of course then I have to put it in the account I have that has nothing racy in it in case they are uptight.:P

Not offended in the least, it's my personal challenge. Of course, I like money and a portrait without a release is worth nada.... 8)

Onward and good luck to everyone...a league of padders is unleashed today on an unsuspecting world... ARRRGGGGGGHHH :D

I disagree. I've used portraits online to get paid work. As long as I'm not selling anything or using them in any other setting, I don't need a release. For my purposes, even a portrait without a release can bring in a fee.

Well, this shot, my opening gambit, cost me money!

£1.40 for the Big Issue.

Hey Dan,does this one count?
http://www.pbase.com/fotografztoo/image/45720364.
I did ask those guys permission.
I just saw this challenge today...after the photo of the mannequins.
I have problems doing candids. This would be way way too hard for me..ASKING somebody to take their photo? That would take...eeeer,guts!
I'll give it a try, maybe at least 1 day sometime this week.

Mannequins, Dolls, what next? Where are the tough guys lol

But I'm finding this challenge hard. I have one from Sunday ready for tomorrow, but come Wednesday I may have to hit the street again and make out I'm from Jude's paper.

Yeah, I'm doing a piece on different attitudes between people from London and Michigan.

I suspect that after Anne's example, someone's going to be visiting their local graveyard, dig up a body, prop it up (properly)
and take a few snaps.

Don't let me put any thoughts into your young and moldable minds...

I am not worthy. Took the kids to the zoo and saw lots of strangers but had not the courage to ask.

A new day tomorrow. I got excited at the giraffes.
