I chair a non profit board for a park group. We had a celebration for completing 200K in improvements to the park over the last four years at a restaurant in Nashville yesterday evening. Good food, drinks and one stranger...Janine

I took the challenge to heart today and walked the entire route of the Calgary Stampede Parade twice photographing people only after asking thier permission. Sometimes it was quite the challenge to ask but the results turned out much better than I ever could have hoped.

The other 63 images that I have posted are here: http://www.pbase.com/bish0p/peoplez

Please comment and let me know what you think.

James (who got way to much sun doing this)

Stranger Photo Challenge

What a great idea! Looks like you all have had fun trying to shoot strangers and I have enjoyed looking at your attempts. Makes me want to go out and try to shoot one myself.

Two more .. one candid, one posed.
The couple turned out to be really fun. This was their outfit for a 50s dance and next week, she told me, they are heading to West Virginia to the place where they went two-person bungee jumping two years ago. "Are you jumping again?," I asked her. "Well .. maybe .. it wasn't so bad last time." (They are, by the way, both approaching 70.)

Back to earlier in the week again. This man really came out with the goods.

A real delight to meet.

I knew I'd pick up one or two at the Croydon Mela today...

Both were members of the public, rather than entertainers. They just decided on being a bit adventurous at the hairdressers :D

I had a busy, busy weekend (and am paying the price today... ugh) but here's a few more stranger shoots:

I read and re-read this forum thread over and over and each time the thought of asking a stranger to take a picture made me incredibly squeemish!

However... it also wore on me.... and today I finally did it!

here is one of the shots....

Other than feeling a bit awkward, it wasn't as bad and I had thought it would be...

Though I still don't think I'll ever really be a people photographer...

I just discovered this thread. I like to take pictures of strangers (and friends, and family, just about anyone) when they don't know they're being observed. But I did recently take this one:

I got his non-verbal assent to be photographed. I did give him and his son a donation. He was playing his violinophone on the ride back in from the airport at Roissy to Paris. I suspect that's a hard trip: on the way to the airport, travelers are often willing to give up change. On the way back, many don't yet have change.
