PaD Views

Post Wed Jan 16, 2008 10:11 pm

I will start out by saying I am not very knowledgable on all things PaD here on pbase, and I have a question regarding page views. I did a Pad back in October. As we neared the end of the year the page views for that PaD dropped to a few view per week, which was expected. But now, since 12/28, the thing has been averaging 60+ views per day. I haven't done anything to promote it, actually I haven't done anything to it at all. So, beind curious as to what would spur all these hits I put the statcounter on my pages. And for the week that I've had it, statcounter is saying that no one has looked at this PaD, yet every day this week I've had around 60 views on it.

So, my question is (are), what would spur a sudden interest in a 3-month old PaD? Does anyone trust statcounter? Are there other tracking sites that are, well, better?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Are you sure your statcounter project is set up correctly? I set mine up with my root gallery, then anything under that will show up.

It can also take a little while for the search engines to show things and that is probably where your hits are coming from depending in titles, comments etc. I get numerous hits as a result of search engine activity!

I entered my statcounter information in the 'plugins' section under the 'edit your account settings' section. Is there a better/different way to do it?

Thanks!

That all you need to do on Pbase, but on statcounter you need to set up a new project. Do you have a project set up over there? I use my root gallery for the project on statcounter.

The project I have set up on statcounter is my root gallery, or it is the main "http://www.pbase.com/williamdrew" page. Should I set up another project? And if so, do I just put the code for that project in a particular "album"?

Which does bring up another question: My page views on statcounter are running about half of what I see on my pbase "page views" page.

Looks like your project is OK. I don't think Pbase counts your own views, and assuming you have a blocking cookie set up on statcounter nor should it. I'll have to plead ignorance at this stage

It's very similar William.
I know PBase counts also the self-hits (only in the total on the profile page).
But this is not an explanation, even in your case the difference is too large.
And I'm not uploading that much!
Somebody noticed the same, and could explain the reason?
Just curious...

I have a script blocker running which probably shows up as blocking data gathering from the stat counter unless I allow or temporarily allow it.

Maybe that is part of the reason.
