Reversed Lens Question

Post Wed Jan 03, 2007 4:28 pm

hi there, i'm new to reverse lens photography, i have an olympus sp-510 uz digital camera, i tried the reverse technique by putting an old slr camera lens face to face (reversed) with the olympus lens and tried to take a photo, it worked perfectly but i need a coupler ring between the olympus lens and the other lens so i can mount the whole thing on a tripod but i don't know the size of the coupler.
it's written in the olympus specs : Lens 38-380mm (35mm equiv)
and the other lens i'm using has a writing saying 50mm
do i need a male to male coupler, and what size of coupler do i need?
Thanks In Advance.

I have information in my macro galleries about reversed lens, but hadn't thought to cover this (I'll add it now). You'll need to know the size of the filter thread for both. The millimeter of the lens doesn't specify it's diameter, and they all vary. Most lenses have the filter size along with the size of the lens marked on it. So, just look for another number in addition to the lens size.

Some of the point & shoot cameras need an adapter to mount a filter, so you'll need to find the specifics for yours. Should be easy by looking in your book, or checking the web. It's easy to tell if a special adapter is needed, since the lens won't have any threads.

Reversed Couplers can be purchased most places, but if you have to order online, B&H carries a nice variety.

If this doesn't answer, you're welcome to Pmail me.

hi, i found a lens converter for some filters "http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UV-Polarizer-4-Olympus-SP-510-UZ-SP-500-C-770-760-750_W0QQitemZ120062490644QQihZ002QQcategoryZ29994QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem"
it says 52mm lens adapter, the other slr lens have as i said 50mm and i found another number 50 with a strange circle diagram (a line on it) beside it,
can u help me with this, will this adapter work?
thnx

That means that 50 is the filter diameter.

The specs I find shows that it does have threads, but I don't think you'll find a coupler in this thread. So you'll need to get the adapter, to screw onto the lens. Then, you'll need to get the coupler in it's thread size on one side, and the thread size of the 50mm lens on the other. But first, you'll need to find out what it is...

What Brand/Model lens is it?
