Guess that lens...

Post Thu Apr 03, 2008 7:11 pm

Hi!

Any idea what lens the photographer of this image may have used? I sent a message inquiring about it but got no reply.

My guess is the Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM.

I was wondering if you would be more likely to get a shot like that with a prime lens...

That is a prime..... Photo tech notes state xxx sec , f2.0 @ 135 mm. I don't know of any zoom that is that fast, at that focal length.

Regardless of the lens, there is an obvious tell that the blurred background was done in post.

Actually I wouldn't be very surprised if the bokeh isn't from PP. The shot was taken at f/2 and 135mm -- the bokeh we're could easily be unedited DOF.

Ok I'll bite.. What's the give away? Is it complete lack of any shapes in the bokeh? It does seem way to uniformly soft.

I own a 135 myself and in my opinion the bokeh in that shot is too obtrusive and to my eye looks as unnatural as the skin of the model. Both the lilies have been well and truly gilded
