Didn't find a proper subsection under 'Equipments' for GPS devices and hence I am posting it here. I am using a Nikon D70 want to get into adding gps co-ordinates to the pictures. Could someone provide suggestion on gps device and software for adding gps data to the exif data?

Not really sure of my budget right now but the lower the better. I don't mind a small inaccuracy in the coordinates.

I don't know about pricing in your area but check out the pharos trips and pics.

http://www.pharosgps.com/products/data_logger/PTP10.htm

I have one and it is pretty good. It directly interfaces with google earth and inserts the gps info into the pictures. It was really cheap I picked up up for about $50.

It is very small (I drop mine in the top of my bag) 2.82in (L) x 1.89in (W) x 0.89in (H) weighs about 2.5 oz.

The only bad thing is being that small the battery life is limited to about 24 hrs. You can set the recording interval to set the logging time (the onboard memory holds 13000 points).

The way I use it is I set the interval (15 sec gives me 2 days between downloads but if I was on a longer trip I could set it higher). You then turn it on at the beginning of the trip and back off at the end of the trip. When you get home you can coordinate your camera clock with the gps time start tagging.

if you are looking for outdoor assignments, I'll go for Garmin. The most reliable and extremely resistant to almost everything, from falling rocks to drowning into frozen water... but bulky and starting around $200...

I have used Garmin eTrex (camo) and gpicsync with my geotagged photos.
If you have GPS in your phone then check if you could use this: http://www.qcontinuum.org/gpstrack/ for getting GPS coordinates.

I use the PhotoTrakr from GiSTeq (http://www.gisteq.com/). It is very small, holds 10,000 sample points. Single AA battery only lasts 24hrs. Comes with software. Pro package ($20 more) supports the raw file formats from Nikon and Canon. With my Canon raw files the software updates the associated XMP side-car file with the coordinates.

If I wanted a GPS with a screen I'd get a Garmin, but they are a lot bulkier and hold much fewer sample points.
