I read somewhere that there is a lot of fine red dust blowing in monument valley that can damage the camera.

Is that true? ( I am planning to go in June.)

Yes. The red sandstone dust get into everything. It's true throughout most of the AZ, UT desert. If you're diligent about keeping everything clean and avoid changing lenses where there is wind you should be fine. One just needs to be extra careful.

Nothing to worry about - I have been there a couple of times and the only dust was when a car drove slowly past - just turn your back to the dust and shield the camera for a few moments.
Enjoy, it is an interesting landscape.

Thanks for the advise. Just came back from there. On regular day it's a great place. On a windy day, there is dust all over. A dust storm just started as I was leaving the area. I posted some pictures here. http://www.pbase.com/photoascoli/monument_valley
