Glossy or Matte?

Post Sat Feb 09, 2008 10:58 pm

Hi,

I will be printing some of my Asia pics (11x14) is it best to use matte or glossy paper for that size?

Thanks!

I don't think size is a limiting factor with glossy or matte papers. It is more a matter of output intent that you want to achive. Glossy, satin or simi-glossy papers support a more traditional photorealistic look. Matte papers tend to soften the image. Some images print well on both types of papers and there are MANY paper choices out there.

Did a little google search for matte versus glossy. You get lots of information.

Here is sort of an interesting discussion of this issue.

Hope this helps.

PS: RC (film speak) ultra-glossy darkroom printed images are usually only used for proofs. Most professionals use fiber-based papers for final images.
