Photographer's Forum?

I entered a contest for this publication and got a notice that I'm a finalist and my image will be published. Sounds nice. But, the more I look into it, the more it seems like a marketing thing...not quite a scam, though. Anyone have experience with them?

The usual line is "Your image has been shortlisted to be published in a book blah blah blah. Send us $80.00 and we'll send you the book". As you said, not quite a scam but near enough. They rely on photographer's ego of having pics published. Unless you want to spend a large sum of money for just seeing your pic in print, I would not bother!
