compact way to print pics

Post Thu Aug 21, 2003 7:29 pm

situation, I'm backpacking and taking pics of the locals.

is there anything available where I can print (small size and doesn't have to be a very good quality) a few pics that I take to give to the locals.
I was thinking small size, like credit card size pics.
somethat that is portable (backpack) and battery operated or recharable and the photo paper is cheap.

all of this just seems like to much to ask for.

Look into one of those 4x6 photo-specific printers by Sony or Olympus. They will only print onto 4x6 photo paper, so the printer footprint is small by comparison to your regular inkjet. Not sure if they are considered portable (can run on batteries), and they do require the special dye-sub paper (which is not available everywhere and is pricey).

I'm sure that will be way over my budget.

Going with the Sony printer as an example, I think if you shop around you can find a package of 15 sheets of 4x6 paper for around $20 or less.

The Polariod P-500IR digital photo printer might be what you need. You can get one from Amazon or Ritz Camera for $25. It has been discontinued by Polaroid by you can still purchase new ones. It uses Polaroid Type 500 instant film (Joycam) which isn't real cheap but does not require batteries. It gets it power from the film pack. The prints are around 2" x 3". The printer has a slot for CF cards and comes with an adapter for SM cards. I understand it will not read SM cards over 32MB. That is about all I know :D

This link might work.
