I think I know what the problem is here, but could you post some links to examples of this behavior?

Oh, WOW! I just found this and it's a blast - better than sliced bread with butter _and_ jam.

I haven't worked with it much but I did tag a few photos and am really impressed with the look and feel of things and how it behaves...definitely up to the PBase standards I love. :)

Can't wait to try it out some more and read what other people have written so I can cross reference my experience with it.

It brings back a lot of memories to revisit the actual place - even it's only on a map. Fun stuff.

bobfloyd: There is a delay between when you upload an image and when it becomes publicly available. Recently this delay increased and we are currently working on getting it down to 0.

In all cases I could view the image almost immediately after the thumb appeared in my favs page. It was only when I clicked "view map" under the actual image that I got the "locked" message so I am not sure I understand your explanation.

ray_t wrote:For password protected galleries it seems that the map display only works for the owner, not logged in visitors. Logged in visitors get this message:

Locked Gallery
You do not have the permissions to view the gallery provided by the url.

Great feature but useless for me until this gets fixed.

Not only password protected galleries - I can't view maps (or even the link underneath) my own public images unless I'm logged in

For example, 'view map' does not show up on this image - http://www.pbase.com/nolock/image/94683012 - when I'm not logged in, but does when I'm logged in. Also, does not show up in the 'gallery satellite view', though it is a known geotagged image.

I went back to that image & "re-geotagged" it to confirm, it still doesn't show up when not logged in. Works just fine when logged in. & still doesn't show up in the 'gallery satellite view' ...

If you're logged in and looking at your own photos, the page knows that you should be able to see your images. When someone else is looking at your photos the page doesn't know if they are allowed to see that image so it assumes they aren't. The script that I mentioned last post is still delayed and when it gets around to the images you recently uploaded it will enable the page to discern if the public can see that image. Once the script gets back to speed you guys won't be seeing these problems. Until then, there will be a noticeable delay between when you upload an image and when it is publicly viewable on maps.

I assume you mean that the page doesn't know if the map location is viewable to someone else, not the image right? Because I am looking at the image itself. It is only the map location that is "locked".

So the script is running over 48 hours behind? I am not trying to be ugly with this question but rather just understand what is going on. I am in technology professionally so I know that getting these things right takes time. It is just easier to be patient when I have more data. :)

Thanks for the hard work on this. I am really enjoying it...both tagging my own stuff and looking at other peoples tagged stuff. Heck, I am looking at Geotagging devices that will work with my camera now!

No. http://www.pbase.com/image/### uses a different (slower) method to determine if an image is publicly viewable or not. maps.pbase.com can't use the same method or it would be too slow. The script (which is running behind) determines for maps.pbase.com if the image is publicly viewable.

I did a batch upload to here - http://www.pbase.com/nolock/hailtzuk - the last thirty or so images, it didn't 'auto geotag' - I went back & 'manually' did each one, after some hours of waiting to see if the 'view map' link would appear. With the manual geotagging, it appeared promptly, & the map icons appeared as well, both logged in & out.

Very cool stuff!! :D

I have done my cornwall gallery so far...
http://maps.pbase.com/keiththomson/cornwall

A few comments that I have (running firefox):

The one I would really really like, is to be able to use the middle scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in and out.
The hover (e.g. "6 Photos") saying how many photos are at a position behaves slightly strangely. I have ended up with many of these on the screen (maybe 6 or 7) at once and it will start removing them in order as you hover over further ones. This hover also appears in front of a picture when you view the full size one.
When you click a new image to begin placing, it should be at the position where the map currently is. Too many times I moved the map away to find the right point and then found it going straight back where I was before. This shouldnt alter the behaviour for the people who like it appearing at the same point, if they dont move the map it will appear in the same spot.
It would be nice to have a mode where you can see all placemarks and move individual ones, without having to select just that one, then move it, then navigate back to the map with all the images.

But in general its excellent stuff - well done.

Thanks for adding this great feature. I've tagged about 1500 of my 1800 photos and have encountered few problems.
