I'm getting spammed through the e-mail address that I have posted in my Profile. The spammer uses broken Spanish in the top part of the spam, and then uses broken English for the copy of the latest 419 scam from "CON OILINTERNATIONAL".

Just found the following in my "inbox" and have notified pbase and have blacklisted the sender ... anything else I should be doing ?

Goodday dearest i so much like your profile, I must say that am just new at internet dating, been single and friendly in nature.
My name is Gift,am 24 years old . please i will love it most if we get more acquanted with eachother because am seeking for a long term friendly affair build on a concrete foundation with a family oriented man of your kind who knows what it means to love and be loved and so please contact me at the below e mail address ( gift_mokann@yahoo.com )
Thanks and take care, hopping to read from you soonest,
best regards Gift.

My first spam email here ... I have pretty strict controls on my comments, so that may be why I haven't received something before this there. And yes it is definitely spam since my pbase account is not personal but rather for a project so there is no personal information in my profile. There is no pbase link but I assume they have a pbase account since they can send to my mailbox - or am I mistaken?

Appreciate any help/advice!

Street Photography on the Show and Tell page qualifies as SPAM. Hiding is not the answer. It should be blocked.

I don't agree that street photography as a whole is spam. But I certainly agree that 1 or 2 people taking over "Show and Tell" with it is. I think that the attitude of certain members on this domination of that forum, certainly doesn't contribute to the cause of 'Street Photography' Some excellent work by many renowned photographers has been done in that area. Just 'cause a couple (or one person) makes it bad for everyone, you can't throw the baby out with the bathwater...but know what you mean...it's aggravating.

I have to admit that this is an interesting new development in forum Spambot-ism which I haven't seen before; clearly this one plucks out some key words from the subject line and incorporates them into the body of the "reply". While it still comes across as gibberish, it's (almost) plausible enough to be mistaken for a post from someone with poor English skills... until you see the link, of course.

There hasn't been a lot of spam cleanup in the forum recently either. As an instance, there is still a stack of (reported) spams from "sameershah60" stinking up the place from the end of last month in the threads further down.

There is an added problem that there are some PBase members who seem to be using the site, not to display photos, but to generate hits on advertising sites. They pay their subscription, then go about making comments on photos or galleries, meanwhile they have no photos, so when some-one who has received a comment looks at their page, there is nothing, except a few inane comments and a website. Looking at the website reveals it to be advertising with no relationship to photography. So, in effect, they pay their $24 or whatever and get a year's advertising. Not a bad deal if you look at it from that viewpoint. Bad if you look at it from my viewpoint. (1) I don't want to be advertised to. (2) I don't want a load of insincere comments made repeatedly on my galleries. (3) it wastes my time. (4) It degrades PBase, making it an advertising forum for n'importe quoi. That devalues the site a photographic outlet

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=47867&p=366180#p364855 is a thread that mentions those spammers by their pbase screen name. I reply to their post with a link to the thread saying they would be very interested.

I got several comments by pbasers promoting other sites. These folks have no photos and just post hoping that I will go to their site. Please stop allowing this practice. I have now have all my comments hidden until I can sort through all the spammers. Just today I got comments from these spammers. They have been ask not to comment.

The same person has a new screen name.
Estelle Mainard (joined 29-Jul-2015) This is the same little child posting under a different screen name. Please delete their account. There are people on FAcebook with that name...so have messaged them. I suspect it is a kid using his/her friends names...hope to get them busted.

Update: Since contacting the person on Facebook and what I believe were adult relatives, the spamming has stopped. Sorry to those who saw their comments hidden initially when they posted.

Thanks for the advice.
I've received a few of these too...thankfully only 15 or so...but didn't open up the messages in case there
was a virus of some kind attached. All now deleted!
Don't want to take any chances so I've disabled all comments for the time being,
Always nice to read what people say about my photos but not worth the trouble if the problem persists.
Hopefully it's just a temporary problem!

There are about 100 new pbase accounts with names like grace88, all showing they joined pbase on 31-Mar-2019.
They blast images with messages that are either for dating sites or porno sites. I've got upwards of 700 - 800 comments generated from these accounts, all within the past 24 hours, so have disabled my messages.
