Updated on Jun 27 2012 - The new version is again able to download all PBase galleries (including ones after the 2009 crash).
Download at http://www.roychowdhury.org/software (ignore the smugmug upload part). Details here http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=223628

- - - - - - -

Okay, so several people have tested it and reported it works for them. May as well release it so it fixes the existing problems with 1.1

Get it from http://www.roychowdhury.org/software

Changes:
a) Added -size option (you can request it to download small/large/medium files)
b) Some stability updates

Notes:
a) When you run it the first time, especially the GUI, please be patient it can take several seconds to start up - after first start it should be faster.
b) It is very likely PBgrab can get "stuck" - if that happens, really, its PBase's network problems - I can't do anything about it. You will have to run it again and cross your fingers.
c) Always a good idea to enable debug (-d debug.txt) - if something goes wrong, you can post the last few lines here or email it to me)

thx
arjun

THANK YOU for this software.
I can't tell you how many times I've tried using software to do this.. only to have it fail or like Win HTTrack not stay in the defined directory and under.

The other reason for my post is so others can find this thread. I only found it because I was going to post a question.. I couldn't find anything via search..

Pbase offline backup
Pbase backup
Pbase archive
Pbase WinHTTrack
Pbase copier

Hang on before you use this.

Go down to this this thread. Something seems to be up with how Pbase has stored images since the November server crash.

I tried pbgrab 1.1, it worked great except for some pictures, it didn't download the original ones (most of them are gallery representative pictures).

When I tried to download pbgrab 1.2, the host site is always saying the file have been removed. Could you upload it again?

Thanks for the great tool!

Interesting. I thought of this today. It's a one-man operation. What would happen if slug just wasn't around?

It would stop working, and who'd know how to work it? All that work...

Michael, I found the link.

I also saw the link to the new PBase magazine (in profile page) but haven't found
the announcements by the creators.

Well, if we can't back them up the new ones, I guess it's time to have
some other kind of backup place I guess, for the sets, that is. I do have
the photos. Ya never know though. It's the sets and the organization
of it all that's been the reason I stayed here. I hope Slug will help
Arjun out on this.

This seems to be very good! However, when right clicking on the downloaded images and looking at properties, it doesn't seem to retain some of the EXIF data, such as the shooting date.

I just used this method for downloading my photos and it works great!

Then I looked at my stats for the last few days and the # of hits I've gotten had been about 10 to 15 times the typical amount. Could it be counting the downloads as hits?

Dunno -- I have not uploaded anything in several days and the last few days my hit counts seem to be about 3 or 4 times normal -- prowling robots? Counter glitches? dunno.

I tried doing the download while using my home network and got the following error message:

ERROR: Could not read Gallery Tree
If you are using a personal firewall, you should use -proxy
The error was: 503 Service Unavailable

Thanks & Bye

How do I incorporate proxy into PB2Smug?

Thanks!

The error was: 503 Service Unavailable

Just a note to say that I found the link at the site above and it worked great to copy the images and text from my PBase site. It creates a folder for each Gallery with subfolders for images, thumbs, captions, titles, etc. The images are in large format and all the text is in .txt format.

Thanks to the helpful person who developed this little program and offered it for free. Donation on it's way.
