I'd like to know where Inge, I have not found that on flickr, zenfolio, smumug, and others. I'm also on 500px right now. Apart from a few ex-PBasers I have no interaction there with other subscribers at all, but here on PBase I have "contacts 984". I received my 150,000th comment here a few days ago, I don't know of any other site where I would get that much feedback, but more importantly the amount of regular interaction and friendships!

I agree, despite still being sad about the decline in communications from PBase, and the membership. I have had a good look at all these other sites and they seem to lack the level of community we have here, and none have the excellent display and navigation formats we also have. Which makes it more of a shame and a mystery as to why it seems that PBase is not being developed or administered properly, at present.

This is my sentiment too. I like the simple gallery layout of PBase and the community where people share and comment. While it works, it is great. Unfortunately the glitches and lack of feedback drives users way. All PBase really needs is a bit of care and attention from the owners.

I have looked at alternatives but prefer the PBase layout, but I fear this site is slowly running out of steam :(

Same feelings here. In addition to the decline, I've also noticed an increase in the number of nude/pornographic images. I am not a prude by any stretch, but I don't like the general trend. Perhaps this is an artifact of others leaving, but clicking on the popular gallery tabs is NSFW.
I do appreciate the general community that remains, although the pond seems to be shrinking almost every day. :-(

I had commented in this thread before, but I just want to say it seems to be getting worse, if that's even possible. Pbase friends who used to post and comment a lot no longer are; there are huge dead times on the site when not only are my friends not active, but nobody seems to be, judging from the recent uploads page. I can't figure out if they have moved on to other sites or are just losing interest in Pbase, but it's becoming a depressing place to be. I used to have a hard time keeping up, but now I find myself waiting for somebody to upload a picture that I can enjoy and comment on. Just a sad state of affairs, IMO.

Lots of complaints and questions on this thread, but no answers. Best to have an alternative, just in case. At least we can stay in touch. Here is a link to the PBase expatriate site on 500px:

Wow, that's a lot of Pbase people, many of whom I know. Thanks for the link Walter; it definitely bears thinking about!

Ditto thanks Walter. I've been frustrated with PBase in the past but it seems like a lot of the people I know have lost interest in the site. Fewer posts, fewer visits, fewer comments. I will definitely do some exploring of what 5--px has to offer.

I have to think that Emily or slug or someone that communicates with them reads this forum daily.
The feedback from customers/members of PBase go unaddressed, as Walt mentions, lots of questions no replies.
Now you know some one will read this in management with communication would reply to this post, it never happens.

The servers are a problem and they do not seem wanting to upgrade I agree you need a back up website.
But that is the sad part, why are questions not getting answered. I have not read any disrespectful questions.
Sad, very sad that after all these years the owners of this website, friends, will not communicate in this forum.

I just renewed...after quite a few months of, should I call it a vacation. Also just posted my first photo in at least a year. Have found a few old friends and a few new ones, in Flickr groups...but no where I've been has the feeling of community that PBase once had. It's kind of sad certainly, that the wet blanket the lack of communication has caused to the community spirit. PBase used to be a great site. Remembering the commitment the contributors to the WIKI once had, and PBase magazine to say nothing of the general spirit here. Yes there may also be a watering down, because of changes in the way, and the amount of areas to post photos at. but guess many have seen it coming for a long time, that the lack of response from the owners would have such a dampening effect.

Pbase needs to be more mobile friendly (at least for viewing), more responsive to user concerns etc. etc. Yeah it still has one of the most creative customization of our own galleries possible, and one of the best gallery navigation processes of any...but it seems the fire is gone....

I almost didn't renew, but like all of you, have put a lot of work into setting up here. It would be nice to be interested because of the vitality (once so apparent) of the site, rather than in saving the effort involved...it almost feels like complacency rather than creativity anymore.

Been here since 2004, very rarely post, actually not since... 2004!

Remember slug being really helpful in the old old days, although to be fair I haven't needed any assistance since around 2005 )))

Not sure about it going downhill though. Surely the point is to upload your images for others to see. Quite simple really. I can't ever seeing myself 'leaving'... too many photos... too much nostalgia... and it does the job for me just fine.

Yes, I've just joined the PBase group on 500px. I'm amazed on the amount of activity on 500px, and the number of views a new upload receives in a matter of minutes. However, I stand by my view that PBase is the best site in terms of its excellent display, easy navigation formats, and the community spirit it easily facilitates. So, I will not be drifting away but continue to hope that the level of service and communications from PBase improves and prevents any further decline in membership.

So I went to check this out and their plans seem reasonable. However, when I went to check out their themes for the custom portfolios I got an error:
"Please upgrade your browser!
At this time, Portfolios does not support your browser.
Upgrade to the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browsers"

This means anyone using IE 11 or Edge would not be able to see your custom portfolio using any of their themes???

The lack of any input from management in this thread is disconcerting to say the least.

Depressing isn't it. I was a supporter in the early years, saw it through it's teething problems and made a lot of friends. Now there are few left, I get scarcely any visits, but darn it - I still like the joint!

I agree on many things in this thread.

1) I am saddened by the loss of some valuable contributors
2) I agree that Slug and Emily have lost interest
3) I agree that the community here was the absolute best. I have a site on Zenfolio (my main site actually) that does not get 5% of the comments and interaction
4) I like the "add Favorites" option here
5) Honestly, I use this site to direct people to my main site http://Bilsen.zenfolio.com
6) I will continue here only because $25.00/year doesn't hurt me. If it did I would be gone.

I also see a big downward trend in number of views and comments. Just recently I've seen a few page one galleries with one or two comments and votes .. ridiculous ! There is only a small core of dedicated folks that make this place enjoyable but that too seems to be loosing ground. The lack of management interest in all areas is disgusting, but as long as we pay the fee all is well with them. Load a few images on any modern web photo hosting site and see how much better the presentation is. Sooner or later, this site will close down or dwindle into obscurity. I also recommend a look at the PBase member site at 500 PX.
