Geotagging seems to have suddenly become impossible. Have I done something wrong?

This has been an on-going problem for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If you search geotagging on the Q&A forum, you will get this: "Search found 183 matches: geotagging". My solution was just to stop geotagging because they obviously have a problem.

The last time I looked into the code (years ago), there's a problem with the way they are calling and validating through the Goople Maps API. If you are logged in, it seems to work, but guests don't get validated. Then there seemed to be one server that was failing validation no matter what. If your system developed an affinity with that server, you never get geotagging to work. Since then they have (according to lore and messages from Emily), moved to new servers and updated code...hmmm.
