Suggestion: Monthly Photo Contest

Post Mon Jan 12, 2004 1:07 am

I gave a quick look and I didnt see a photo contest, so I thougth I would suggest having a pbase photo contest each month. And to give an encouragement, have prizes. Not something to expensive to pbase, maybe free upgrade for a year to the package one up, like 200mb a year instead of 100mb or something. This could also draw more attention to people that are not members. :0). Also spread the word about pbase.com

Just an idea, have a good day, GerryDavid.

I am not sure how much this gel with the purpose of pbase that slug and team had in mind. For this, as far as I can tell, Pbase is not primarly a community. It is a place for just hosting your images. Keeping that in context, I wonder whether slug and team may want to host a photo contest.

I can't see a need for yet another photo contest. I entered the one at shutterbugs.biz last month (and did win on a few days :)) but there are so many contests all over the web that I don't even bother with them. Plenty out there for those folks who are looking for competition, and I don't think we need another one.

What are some of these photo contests? I did a search before but found a bunch that seemed crooked. :0).

On the Sony users forum we have them quite often. Perhaps the forums for your camera types have them to. Or, if not already, it's a great place to try and start one.

What do you mean by "crooked" David? I know shutterbugs.biz is legit, since some of my pics won POTD there and I don't know a soul on the site. Anyone know of other such sites that you feel are reputable?

I like this site. It has a review panel and you can upload pictures for evaluation. Lots of good feedback and constructive comments, etc.

Here is this weeks photo

And here is one that I selected randomly that shows the rating card and comments

you might want to participate in the topic of the week threads here.

you will get some nice exposure and you can judge yourself against your peers.

might even bag a vote or comment or two

By crooked I meant not legit. Like they hide in the terms of agreement for participating that they can use your photograph in thier marketing with out compensating you, or worse, cuz who actually reads all of the agreement stuff? And if you do, how much do you understand? :0). I try to read it all but sometimes theres legal talk that goes in circles, hehe.

Thanks for all the links provided, I didnt know about most of them and Ill have to give them a look. :0).

One of the things I like about a lot of the sites mentioned above is they have some type of limitation on the number of uploads a person can make. The emphasis on most of them is quality, not quantity. That makes it a bit easier to review and evaluate individual photos.
