Editing profile page

I've searched through the threads in here and tried a lot of unsuccessful experimentation with editing and customizing my profile page. I've seen a few people who've been able to do it and I'm just looking for any further information on how to do this. I'm not too knowleged in CSS or HTML so hopefully it's not too indepth. Thanks in advance!
