Slideshow problems

Post Thu Oct 19, 2006 6:12 pm

I created a new homepage with the much-needed help from the following source : http://pbasewiki.srijith.net/howto/cust ... ootgallery. I have no experience with source codes, html, javascript, etc.

I encountered several problems while following the directions.

First, my new gif file for title name wouldn't work when I replaced it with the existing image link: "http://www.pbase.com/image/56552555/original/jpg". Maybe it's because the new image address for my title gif is http://www.pbase.com/image/68824992, with no original/jpg extension. I changed the image url to include the extention and my title name appeared, but fading in and out behind the slideshow images...!

Second, unless I also replace the image link link "http://www.pbase.com/image/56552690/original.jpg" the original photographer's name continues to appear as title. When I changed this link with my own title gif it appears above, but so does a lot of extraneous white text.

Here's the link if you want to have a look: http://www.pbase.com/mikelong/trial

Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Mike

I should add that I got my home page http://www.pbase.com/mikelong
to display nicely after creating a transparent, blank gif to replace my title name fading in and out behind the slideshow images and messing around with the code to get my galleries to appear on the home page, beneath the slide show.

But my guestbook is missing unless I'm logged in to edit and the slideshow images do not load smoothly, so I'm still not there yet.

No wonder they pay those programmers so well...!

I thought you said in another thread that you were disallowing all comments because of the spam commentary we're all getting...so the link is superfluous. You could always delete it or change the link to something else, like your galleries treeview.

I'm viewed the page in both FireFox and IE 6 and the images transistion very smoothly on my computer....I'm on Roadrunner down here and it's pretty fast.

True, not having the guestbook is actually great, but the "Guestbook" menu tab is still there while the page itself is blank. I'm working on replacing that tab and page with something else, simply to keep the homepage balanced with four menu categories.
Thanks for your help.
Mike
