Strange occurrence!!

Anyone got any idea why the copyright symbol disappears on my Shrewsbury gallery intro if I link to it using my newly aquired URL http://www.shrewsburyinsoftlight.com. When I use the usual pbase link it works. The copyright symbol is in my Gallery Description box. By the way, thanks to Flemming and Dang for the advice on adding new URLs.

Probably the most obvious reason is the page encoding changed after being placed. I can see it fine, and mentioned this in another thread a while back.
If you can't view all of the characters below, it's most likely due to your computer settings:
翻译, 翻譯, Traduire, Übersetzen, Tradurre, 翻訳しなさい , 번역하십시오 , Traduzir, Перевести, ampliação , fórmulas , j'ai eu à traiter , αναφερθω πολλοι

Thanks Dang - you're a mine of information. Strangely, I can see all those characters on your thread but when I get emails from people in Japan I get question marks!! I think I'll try the advice mentioned in your link. With regard to the copyright symbol on my site - if you can see it I'll leave well alone!!

Oh the good old character encoding problems ... we all experience these problems! Lots of posts about these in the forums, no real solution until we can use unicode and Pbase updates the html code on all page to specify to the browsers that the page is in unicode.

With the copyright symbol though, there's one thing you can do. Instead of actually typing the copyright symbol type in

©

this is the "and" symbol (whatsitcalled?), "copy" and then a semicolon. This tells the browser to type a copyright symbol and should work regardless of which encoding the browser is set to at the users end.
