Hi Fran,
It might still work, what I'd suggest is trying the coding below in a separate gallery before doing anything major with what you have. If you can duplicate the showing link problem, that's where I'm stumped. The "Luis Code" was actually the first slide show code written for use on Pbase, and posted a member. You can see a later version I adapted included in Karen Leafs gallery here: http://www.pbase.com/kleaf.

It's a nice tidy code for the"root", and includes the use of clear spacers to keep elements aligned. If you want to change to it instead, I've fixed the html to your current designing, which you can just past into your root description, without making any changes to your CSS. I think you'll like it, I've included your RSS Feed link into to it, and added a few extra touches for search engines. If you're using any top links included within the Pbase code, they can be turned of in the edit page where it says "Subgalleries link to each other." The coding in the previous post is probably best for your other galleries, and may or may not need a separate style sheet since I haven't tried it.
Hope you enjoy, but let me know if there's any problems.

Ok, I'm back - I've managed to break my laptop this morning, so am hoping I have better luck with this!

I've changed the home, portraits, and pets galleries to the new cose (with amendments for the text), and they all look fine in firefox. However, in IE there's still the line at the bottom of the page saying "click on thumnails for full image" :(

I think the only other thing I'll need to do is something to make the navigation bar thingy ("home/portraits/pets/prints") stand out more.

Will be back later!

Ignore my last post, I'm an idiot, and used the code as the stylesheet instead of entering it in the description box! I've had a quick go now, but it's not right (though it looks like it will be brilliant once I've made the right adjustments!) and the slideshow isn't working.

I need to go and do other stuff, so I'll have another go later

It's getting there now! Slideshow is fine, I had the wrong gallery name in :roll:

sorry for the franpurdy/jenga postings- I realise I seem quite mad.

Hi Fran,
I still can't get it to show on my computer. And I noticed you still have navigation below the slideshow, which isn't in the codes I posted. Can you post the CSS & HTML you're using here? Or is it that you want the extra navigation at the bottom for some reason?
I'm not too sure about the boxes with the top navigation myself, I thought it was much cleaner without. But that's up to you, of course. If you're going to use it that way, you might try using a <center> tag just them so the text would be centered in the boxes. Looks a bit odd to the side.

Takes a bit ot tweaking at time, eh. :wink:

Anything that looks rubbish wasn't intentional at all! I've just had a look at it on IE and it's horrendous! I'm getting myself in a complete state here!

Anyway, this is the html for the stylesheet I used, but I'm wondering if I'd be better just changing it to one of Pbase's - what do you think?

Code: Select all

Fran,
That is ONLY the color verbalization. It shows you the colors throughout the sheet, so you can change them up top and not change each one throught the sheet. For instance, as I'd mentioned earlier, if you want the change the blue lettering back to green just add the greens # in place of the blue. It makes it really simple.

What I was asking was, whats the rest of the code you've added?

Oh. Umm, in that case, I don't appear to have any code at all then - that's all the code I have in the stylesheet!

The code in the description box is exactly what you detailed.

Okay... Lets try this again, I'm having slow problems and IE is going crazy with me this morning. But Instead of using firefox I've copied the entire code again. So, copy this again, which I've done a couple of more tweaks too since the last, but be sure you scroll all the way to the bottom when you copy it. And be sure that it's placed inside the gallery description area, and NOT in the CSS. Plus, be sure that the box under the description area which says "click here if using html, uncheck for automatic" is checked.

The color verbalization shouldn't be in the description area, that's only shown in the stylesheet CSS. Are you sure you're placing codes in their proper areas?
Here's what everything should look like if done properly: http://www.pbase.com/dang/fran The only difference, when used in the root gallery there will not be a comment box, or anything else below the slide show.
Place the entire code below in the gallery description area. Let me know....

Ok, have done that - I've posted new code into the description boxes on the 'root' and the 'home' page. The CSS stylesheet I've left at just the colour verbalisation I posted earlier.

There's still thumbnail links showing on the 'home page' (I can't tell if I even need this page now - it might be surplus to requirements if the 'root' page looks ok). Plus the page is too wide, but I'm guessing that's not too much of a problem (?)

And the tiny bit of errant code at the bottom of the page is driving me mad - I can't see where it's come from!

This must be driving you mad - feel free to throw in the towel anytime you like. And thanks again!

Okay here we go!

Be sure you use either wordpad, or notepad to do this. Other programs such as "OfficeOrg" or "Microsoft Works" will not work, they alter the code.

1. Just to get it all straight, the CSS below needs to go into a new style sheet. So click the edit style sheet button, and when they open go to the bottom where it says, Make a New Style Sheet.

2. Clear everything in the large text area, then copy and paste the new CSS into the box, name it in the provided area and click update.

CSS:
Code: Select all
<setvar color1 =   #104F05>
<setvar color2 =   #103F08>
<setvar color3 =   #BFBFBF>
<setvar color4 =   #2E6F22>
<setvar color5 =   #FFFFFF>
<setvar color6 =   #260000>
<setvar color7 =   #240000>
<setvar color8 =   #FFFFFF>
<setvar color9 =   #1D7F17>
<setvar color10 =  #247F1F>
<setvar color11 =  #0E7F07>
<setvar color12 =  #320000>
<setvar color13 =  #CFCFCF>

3. After you've updated, click the link below saying "return to gallery"
4. On the stylesheet choices, chose the new stylesheet in the box then click update.
That finishes the CSS.

Now for the HTML:
5. Clear everything in the "Gallery description area, and be sure the box underneath is checked which says, "Check here if using html, uncheck for auto formatting."
6. Copy & Paste the new code below into the description, and click update:

Code: Select all

I've tested this in Firefox, IE and Safari with all screen resolutions using medium sized photos. This is for the Main "ROOT" gallery ONLY.
We'll worry about the others when this is taken care of. The test gallery I used can be seen here: http://www.pbase.com/dang/fran

All done: http://www.pbase.com/franpurdy. It still shows the thumbnails

I PM'd you the password for the galleries if you want to have a look, but I've done exactly what you said to :(

I think the 'root' and the 'home' galleries are confusing things (for me anyway). I originally set up the 'home' page thinking I couldn't get rid of the thumbnail links on the root page, but if I (you!) DO manage to get it done, then the 'home' page won't be needed.

Okay...
The "Root" gallery is the main page used by Pbase. Since there wasn't any way for me to see your "tree view" I had no way of knowing where you were trying to add code. As I've said, this will only work in the "Root". A main gallery is a standard gallery, just used to "house" sub-galleries. It will take an entirely different CSS & html for it. You want to keep your root gallery as the primary page, since it's the shortest url and the one your "redirect" will land on.

Set up the Root with the code, and keep the "main". I'll have another look at the code too. I might have to do a bit more with it, since I've been confused with what we were doing. It's always easier when you can see whats being done, instead of guessing.

If you can't get it, let me know. If you've mailed your password, it went somewhere else. So, I'd suggest changing it.

Sorry, Fran... Somehow I must have mixed up the code and left in a wrong section. The thumbnails are still set up to show. It's the " A.Thumbnail " area, just above the body. You'll want to remove all the size & DX transform stuff, and set to display none. As such:

Code: Select all
    A.thumbnail {
       DISPLAY: none;
    }
    A.thumbnail:link {
       DISPLAY: none;
    }
    A.thumbnail:visited {
       DISPLAY: none;
    }
    A.thumbnail:active {
       DISPLAY: none;
    }
    A.thumbnail:hover {
       DISPLAY: none;
}

I think there was some type of glitch going on last night. Things slowed terribly, photos weren't loading and codes didn't take. Seems fine now though, so guess they've gotten it fixed. Should make it much easier from this point.

Yep, last night was bad for me too!

I've messaged you my (new) password again - let me know if you haven't received it, as it means Pbase's message system is going nuts as well, and I can conventionally email it to you instead, if you still want it!

Have changed the stylesheet on the Root gallery as you've detailed - new stylesheet code is as follows:

It's done the trick of removing the thumbnails, but not the text.

I do understand what you mean with the root and the 'home' pages - when this started I didn't think the root page(http://www.pbase.com/franpurdy) would ever look right, so I've set up the redirection so that if anyone types in http://www.franpurdy.com, it would take them to the 'home' page instead. This is probably where we're getting our wires crossed. Rest assured though, I am clear on the difference! I'll leave the home page in though, as I can spread the intro out a bit, and in time (ha! a long time yet!) I might even restructure a bit more and it'll be easier with a page already set up.

Nearly there, nearly there! Image

No Fran,
I don't need the password, I'm just confused on which gallery you're adding the code. The CSS & html I've posted is for the root gallery only. I can't tell you it's going to work in the other pages. I see you've added it there (but haven't added a gallery for the slide show), so lets work on one thing at a time please. Also, I'm confused on where you're getting those bottom links. They're not in the CSS & html I've posted, so where are they coming from? My only guess is that you're adding names to the photos. Remove the names, and they' won't show. The "main" gallery will hold sub-galleries which you can name, and include additional photos into for viewing.
