Do a view source.
Near the top of the page you should see something like,
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://i.pbase.com/styles/gallery2.css">
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://css.pbase.com/styles/82771.css?t=1225718853">
Copy the coloured link into your browser to see and copy the CSS. Please note that if there are comments in the CSS about who created it, then it should be left there as a courtesy.

I did that and lost my menu and it still did not look like the page I wanted. This is how I want my page to look like http://www.pbase.com/tim32225

The CSS is http://css.pbase.com/styles/86626.css but most of the placement in the page is done through the page itself.

Check out http://pbasewiki.srijith.net/ for some great tips.

Steve,

Since it's my stylesheet you were trying to copy, the proper thing to do would have been to ask me for permission to use it, rather than ask someone how you could snag it and use it as your own. Did that even cross your mind?

I knew it was my stylesheet the moment I saw it, because I spent quite some time getting the red glow on the thumbnail hover the way I wanted it. I didn't even notice your quote (above) before I saw the stylesheet on your main page and noticed it was identical to the work I did for my equipment gallery.

Most people here are glad to help others with this stuff when asked (and I'm no exception) but it's a lot more palatable when they ARE asked, rather than finding out by seeing their work on someone else's page. I have helped countless others on pbase with their stylesheets, and I have even made stylesheets for a few folks here. I would have helped you as well, but I would have then felt better about it.

I noticed that you also copied the 'Powered by Pbase" logo I made for my banner image. I can tell by the shape of the first blue oval symbol because I left the shape if it slightly different than the other two, and I note that the one on your page is identical. I made that graphic very large, and then shrunk it down to fit. When I first put that graphic up on my main page, I caught some flack from a few people here who thought the 'powered by Pbase' graphic had to be a link back to the pbase page. However, I could not find that requirement written anywhere so it's apparently not a requirement. I did it that way to save vertical space at the top of my page. A link would have needed to use a separate line.

In hindsight, have to laugh at your copyright notice on your page, since you apparently have no regard for anyone else's work.

Here is the gallery you copied the stylesheet from: http://www.pbase.com/tim32225/gear

Have a nice day.

I've had this happen as well, people just copying my stylesheet without asking, it's incredibly rude and a breach of copyright and really annoys me - I totally understand you Tim.

I find it quite puzzling that photographers who fret over image theft have no thoughts about stealing web design from another fellow photographer - without even asking.

Like you I am more than happy to always help people with css and html questions but get extremely mad when people steal my web design without asking. I know exactly where you're coming from Tim, and agree with everything you said.

Tim and Flemming, you both have my complete support.
I know just basic elements of style-sheet and HTLM, so it takes me really a lot of time and concentration to create my own rather personalized layouts and of course I have analysed others’ style-sheets to understand how they worked, but I think it’s legitimate ;^))
If you allow me this example, it’s like when an amateur painter copy the masters’ paintings to make exercise and to learn, the wrong things would be if the amateur painting presented as his own work the copied paintings.
Little by little I have understood how to manage and I have practically learnt all what I know from Flemming, whose kindness I’ll be never tired to thank. Some other kind and expert Pbasers have helped me on this forum as well.
I can manage by myself now and I have helped several other Pbasers to give a more personalized look to their galleries at my turn.
It might sound a bit presumptuous said by me, since I’m not that expert at all, but knowledge must be passed over to have a meaning and I’m simply trying to help others as I had been helped at my turn.
The funny thing is that some people have copied me too...
Just by chance it happened to me to discover some my own style sheet (not only the script, but even my own image as background attachment) in others’ galleries.
In a way I might feel flattered...But it’s not that nice, mostly when the style sheet is personalized with a background image hosted in my own galleries....
I’m always happy to help, if I can, but I’d prefer to be asked, instead of discovering my poor work simply copied in every detail.
So I understand you and I fully agree.
This is life, I suppose, nothing so serious, but it’s a matter of principle.
I wish a nice day to all.
Marisa

I find it very nice, Shawn!
Maybe it’s a bit complicated to be copied by newbies...
I might copy it myself one day :wink: :wink: :wink: :wink: :wink: :wink:

Your always welcome to it Marisa :D

It would be nice if people would at least ask and give credit when they do use a style sheet. I am more than willing to help when I am able but it is also a nice courtesy to be asked. I also appreciate the people such as Flemming, Tim, Dang, Thierry and the countless others that give great advice in these forums and are a huge part pbase.

I thank you all !!!!!!!!!!!!! <--- can't stress that enough !!!
