stats program - how do I link to my gallery?

Post Thu Nov 13, 2008 8:59 am

Hi all

I have a very very limited knowledge of html and other technical things.
I am wondering how to link a stats program/counter to my pbase site
so I have a better understanding of what is going on with visits.

I read somewhere about adding a "meta tag" or html file to the
front page. The nearest thing to a front page would be the
root gallery right? Then how would I add such a thing as a meta tag
or html file - does it go in the "description" area of the
root gallery?

If anyone can advise a useful tool and how I can add it please
let me know. Thankyou in advance!

None of the above...

"Statcounter" & "Google Analytics" are supported by Pbase, and can be included in the "plug in" section of your Profile Page Edit. More information is included in the "News" Forum, or click here for the stat counter announcement: http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32021
Enjoy.

Thankyou Dang - I now have Statcounter working.

I am confused about the 'log' size of 500 (I have
only had the statcounter for the last few hours
and its already at 112).

What happens if/when it gets to 500? Is this a
daily log or an 'all time' log? Is it necessary for
me to pay to upgrade, what do people normally
do in these cases?

Thanks in advance.

The free version of Statcounter stores detailed statistics for only the last 500 page loads - so when it hits number 501 it deletes the first record and so on. Summary statistics (number of page loads and visitors each day) are stored permanently. But if you look at more detailed statistics like "came from" or "visit length", you only get information about the last 500 page loads - which is not a lot, especially given that typical PBase galleries have a lot of pages so one viewer going through your galleries can generate a lot of hits. For example I've just had a look at my own stats and they record less than the last two hours of activity due to the log limit - and 289 of the 500 page loads happen to be from a single visitor.

The level of detail provided by Statcounter is excellent but obviously this is a major limitation. Unfortunately it's rather expensive to upgrade to any kind of really useful log size - certainly more than I can justify to myself.

It may be worth looking at the other counters available - I chose Statcounter a few years ago and have kept it out of laziness, there may be better options now.
