Blog Style

Post Tue Dec 09, 2008 8:23 am

I'm rearranging my galleries, and have selected more personal ones and taken then away from my main landscape pages. I have put them into the blog format.

How do I get the words of the gallery description, to stay neatly over one side instead of showing under the photo?

Hi,

Basically you need to set a width for the DIV containing the image:

Code: Select all
div.thumbnail-gallery
{
  width: 400px;
  display:inline;
  float:left;
}

Then the text should float on the right side of the image. You then need to play around with the layout of the text a bit more I guess, but have a go with this and see if it works !

Thanks for that. It's been a while since I've played with this stuff. Can you explain where I'll need to put that exactly?

You need to edit your css and then just add this class anywhere in your css.

This is a great resource if you need a bit more info about editing css http://pbasewiki.srijith.net/

Re: Help Please

Post Sat Dec 13, 2008 1:48 am

Thanks Flemming... I've looked over through those links.

However, can somebody help me more please? I've adjusted style sheets in the past, and I think to do that I need to create a brand new one from the default one.

I'm using Woodmist stylsheet for the blog and need to know how to get inside that (or copy it to create a new one). When I go to edit my style sheets, the default ones are not there. I know you can view of the html coding on the page source, but somebody needs to tell me how much of that to copy out, and then put back into a new sheet so I can create one to edit.

It's frustrating really. Have just spent over an hour working through the stuff with Firefox, but still can't work out what exactly is needed to input into a new stylesheet. I wish we just had a simple box separated that we could make out adjustments in, instead of having to do a whole new one.

Please, can anybody assist?

Hi Kerry,

No worries :) I'll try and explain it a bit more.

1) Yes you need to create a new stylesheet, and you're right when you go to edit stylesheet it only shows your own stylesheets not the defaults. Don't worry about that for now, just create a new stylesheet.

2) Since you're using Firefox, the web developer plugin is by far the easiest way to do this. Read about the web developer plugin here: http://pbasewiki.srijith.net/howto/playing_with_css
Now open 2 different Firefox windows, in one of them you edit your new stylesheet. In the other you open one of your own galleries and use the web developer tool to edit the css. This way you'll be editing the current css meaning all the classes from the Woodmist stylesheet will be there.

3) When you're happy with your edits, you need to copy the whole stylesheet and save it instead of your own. Activate the stylesheet in web developer you've been editing, select all text and copy it.

4) Now switch to the window you opened with the edit page for your own css and delete all the text - and paste the whole stylesheet you just copied from the webdeveloper window. Remember to save!

5) Now just edit your gallery and select your own stylesheet and then update gallery. Now the gallery should be showing with your stylesheet!

Note: Open different windows in Firefox, not just different tabs. Web developer works across tabs so if you switch tabs you'll really make a mess of things :)

Hope this helps you get started, if not let me know.

all the best,

Flemming

Thank you Flemming.... I haven't had a chance to have another play. That will probably have to wait until the weekend. I appreciate your help and will let you know when/if I get it sorted.

Again thanks.... I've just spent a few hours "playing" and not satisfied with what I can get out of it. I did manage to get the lettering up beside the photo, but it also copied the formating of words from the individual gallery to the blog area, which I didn't want.

I wasn't able to get around this from my experimenting. Have spent enough time on this game. Will just hope oneday one of the templates on offer, will be with the words up by the pictures.
