I am using karen1109 as my basic style sheet. The background color by default is a medium grey. I would prefer a somewhat darker grey for background color - everything else is fine. When I go to the root gallery, and I enter a #RGB in the background color field for a darker grey, for example #464646, I hit the "Update Gallery" button and then check my galleries, nothing has changed, the background color is still the default medium grey. If I enter instead a different color name, for example, "black" and I repeat, nothing happens again.

Has anyone else had this problem? What am I doing wrong?

The background colour field in the "edit gallery" page only works if you have no style sheet; if you have a style sheet (as in your case), its background colour takes priority. So you need to hit the "edit style sheets" button and create a new style sheet, pasting in the code from the karen1109 style sheet as a starting point. Then change your style sheet in the root gallery (and other galleries if you want them to look the same). At this point everything should look the same as it does now. Then experiment with changing the background in your style sheet.
