New gallery - surfers

Post Thu Jan 15, 2004 11:29 pm

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know why the color of the water is different in different shots. I can't figure it out; they were taken on the same day, same place, same lens. All comments welcome. Thanks

Anna,

I've noted that it doesn't take much to obtain different shades of color with ocean shots. As noted before it has to do with the angle of the reflected light, the depth of the water, the thickness of the wave etc. The light shining through the wave/water has different properties depending on the amount of water and the angle of incidence.

Having spent many hours trying to catch the perfect picture of waves, like snowflakes, there are no two waves alike in either shape color or intensity.

It may also be a white balance issue. If the clouds cover up the sun, then you're talking about a completely different white balance setting than when the sun was shining. I especially notice the white shift in 1195. If the whites are corrected, then the ocean colors might start drawing nearer to each other. (Though, indeed, the ocean is a tricky, ever-changing subject depending on all factors mentioned previously).

GORGEOUS shots regardless!

Thx guys for the feedback. I guess it's a WB problem. Nevertheless the ocean is fascinating in all it's different colors and moods.
