This is sort of bad taste I think.

Probably not the most endearing thing to do, pimping your own forum.

Terri, you really think it's wrong to tell folks about this? Why? It's not like I make money off it. It's just that these folks are photographers, and most members on my site are photo artists and retouchers, so they don't use the photo forums much. But since I do have the threads on photography there, I thought members here might like to make use of them and advertise their galleries on another site.

I see on my member list that you have just registered, FW! Great! As for "pimping" my site, folks use this forum to "pimp" their galleries all the time, and that's what it is here for. So how is this all that different?

Besides, I actually figured it was doing everyone a favor. If others think it's in bad form, however, I will delete the links. So I'll check back tomorrow and see what folks have to say, and abide by the majority's wishes.

I agree with the other that its bad taste to say the least. It's using pbase's resources and facilities to advertise your own company...very different that showing other members your pbase gallerys I think.

Phyllis, I'm just protecting my handle by pre-emptively registering it. I might participate, I might not. Don't get too excited about it.

As for the appropriateness of it all, PBase provides a forum in which to discuss our photos which are ALSO hosted by PBase.

That's the difference.

Lisa, I use PBase so I can use my photos in other places. In fact, I advertise other sites every time I post. My sig has links to two of my photography sites.

Heck, I post my PBase photos all over the 'Net.

This might be better as a tread for self promotion using your PBase pictures.

I orginally got an account on PBase to post to DPreview. Will continue this in another thread.

But Innographx Forum is not a "company"...just a free site for folks who like photos and art. Big difference, I think.

As for using PBase's "resources," not only am I a paying member, but many of my Innographx members are now paying members BECAUSE I suggested they use PBase. PBase got hundreds of dollars, therefore, from my connecting the two sites in my posts. Also, at The Inn we post links to PBase all the time when we refer to photos stored here. So a lot of traffic has come to PBase from Innographx. It works to the advantage of both sites, in my opinion. I can't fathom why anyone would consider this to be a competitive situation. Perhaps it's just that those who haven't used my site don't understand what we're about.

However, since a few folks have said they don't approve of my mentioning particular threads on my forum which would be of interest to PBase members, I have deleted the links. Anyone who wants to investigate my site can do so simply by following the link in my signature, which IS okay by everyone's standards, oddly enough.

A fine line, and a silly one in my opinion, but if you guys want to draw it, I won't cross it.
