To frame or not to frame...

Post Fri Apr 23, 2004 4:41 pm

Just wondering how you guys feel about adding a photoshoped 'matte' or 'frame' to the picture. I used to dislike them, but now I have decided to add a small one and re-size all my shots to 600x400 (not including the small frame). I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments! Here's a like to a gallery that I just re-processed. Do you feel this is too small or is the frame distracting?

Thanks!

I think these frames are fine - not distracting at all. The sizing's sensible too for the Web. Nice little gallery you have there.

There must be an easy way for you to do all this. Some one with more knowledge than me may be able to help. Again I’m not sure but it seems this could be done in the style sheet.

Thanks! I used to have the images at 800x600, but it's a bit large for some people. They also were 150k-300k which is a bit much. They are all <100k now which is a bit faster.

I Could do it with CSS, but I don't think the dropshadow effect works on all browsers, plus I'm not sure how I'd add the signature. I guess I could format and position another image as the signature, but it was an excuse to re-size and play around with the images again =)

I made an action in Photoshop that does it all in about 5 seconds, so it's not too much work.

If you go to my gallery at http://www.pbase.com/lonnit you'll see that virtually all my shots are framed. I see you leave the photo above the mat and drop shadow it, whereas I place the photo behind the mat in the more traditional manner. I like your way too. :)
