Very odd comment from guest - need feedback.

I had a really odd comment from a guest to my gallery and cannot figure it. It described my site as 'very shit' and refered to me as a 'weirdo'. I accept people are entitled to their opinions, but I really cannot understand how my galleries could procuce such a response. I would really appreciate some feedback, and if anyone sharing the same opinion can offer more of an explanation, I would really welcome it. Thanks

Good heavens what a repellent thing for someone to say about you or your galleries. I've just popped over and given a look at some of your stuff and I'd say it's creative and well done.

Keep in mind that this stuff is available to the entire networked planet, so who knows the mindset, background or (perhaps most pointedly) age of the "guest". I'd take it with a grain of salt and delete that particular comment posthaste.

Good stuff in your galleries. Looking forward to seeing more.

I checked out your galleries and they seemed very good to me. Your pictures of Venice brought back memories for my wife when she lived there. I prefer your "real" colors to the overly saturated ones that people some do. I would be a little hesitant to immediately delete (wait a week) the unfavorable comments as you can get into a posting/deleting war. The perpetrator will often return to see your reaction. If their comment is still there and nothing has happened, they will soon tire of annoying you and will quit visiting your site. If you give them the desired response things escalate (see some of the posts in Q&A).

It's an excellent point. That's probably exactly the response the perpetrator is looking for. Ignoring it is probably the best action to take.

That is exactly what I have done in the past with such comments. Leave them for a while. (unless the comment is partucarly nasty)

Hopefully each viewer will form their own opinion, and not be swayed by comments.

Enjoyed your gallery a lot - I would suggest that the only weirdo is your anonymous poster. I have had a couple of unfortunate comments against images in the past, and have just deleted them and heard nothing more about it.

Any bonehead can leave comments on a gallery if you have it set so that they can. I was getting some similiar comments so, I have gone into my settings and changed it so that only registered members can post comments. Shortly afterwards I got a very nasty comment from a member going by Stefan Rohner. I deleted his orginal message which sounded very similiar to the message you got. Broken english and the use of the word 'shit' and mentioning of eyesight.

Stefan likes to pick galleries out of the popular gallery list and if it isn't up to his 'standards' he bad mouths them by leaving comments. I wasn't the only one he did that to. I do not know if he is the one putting the comments in your gallery, but the way to stop this from happening is to change you settings to allow only pbase members to leave comments. If it is a fellow pbase user he can only leave a message if he is logged in and it will capture his user ID.

I have just been to your galleries and they are beautiful, creative and very artistic. I certainly wouldn't take to heart comments from an individual who obviously has no photographic interests or background.

Don´t worry. You´ll be surprised if you knew all the people that receives absurd and stupid comments. I´m actually having the privilege of a follower that likes to post a drawing of a penis in my guestbook. I meet this guy years ago in another forum, and he become obsesive and finally destroy it. By searching for me trought my E-Mail he found me again. And now he´s having the nasty habbit of posting ugly things in my gallery. I´ve checked the "Only registered members can post", but that does not afect my guestbook, wich is public always. I´ve complain in many forums about the lack of a feature that could make us be able to decide wich post go public and wich doesn´t. That would be a solution for most of our actual problems! So, if you wish take this adviced from a *profesional* dodger of sick individual who like to post garbage:

a) Never respond nothing. Not even once. You can only hope the guy is not a regular guest in your site (as my personal and exclusive insulter). As you explain it, seems like a one-time visitor. Probably he´ll never post in your site again.

b) Delete the post at any time. After all, having a post that is not propper (and it is not, as you can check by the previous evaluation of you skill in this threat) won´t make you happy. This has been my policy and works fine for me; no democracy at my site if no diplomacy shown.

c) Always check the "only members can post comments". Non members could always have the posibility of leave their generic comments at the guestbook.

d) Install Nedstat or another "page statistics counter". It´ll help to know (or to suppose) if the bastard in becoming a regular guest at your site. Using that I´ve discovered my personal insulter uses different services (probably post comments from a internet & coffe place). It will also help you to have nice information about your site. Not a Must, but could help you.

e) Don´t ever doubt about your qualities or skills. Photography depends on the eye of the viewer (if you know what I mean). Mental healt must be first, and an insult would never be a critic in a constructive way.

Hope this comments from a regular fighter agains insulters could help you.

Just ignore it. It's obviously from some weirdo.
I do have an observation about your site. There is not enough contrast between the background and the caption colors. Also, all the pages are the same. Just personal preference, I suppose, but I like variety.
Take a look at my site and you will see what I mean, although I may have gotten carried away a bit.
